Granddad’s Spirit realised I didn’t speak his dialect. What he did next was so cute!

The rain outside the café had slowed to a drizzle as I concluded an angel oracle card reading with Alicia, a first-time client.

“Thanks for the reading, Kelly!” Alicia said as I gathered up the cards and shuffled the deck. “I’m glad for the insights into my career and my grouchy boyfriend.” She paused for a second as a thought struck her. “Oh hang on! Sorry but may I ask about my parents’ health?”

– Sure! I could help you ask Spirit for what you can do to ensure their health and wellbeing.

I tuned in. During this process, I trace the energetic and spiritual cords that link my client to the person in question. By reading the energy they’re giving out, and sometimes enlisting the assistance of angels and spirit guides, I can access information wherever appropriate for the client’s highest good.

– Your mum. Hmmm… it seems that –

(HEY! HEYYYYYYYY!!)

Standing behind Alicia, to her right, was the spirit of an old man. He was calling out and waving his walking stick frantically at me.

– Alicia, were you close to your grandfather?

“To my paternal granddad, yes. He’s still alive. But my maternal granddad died before I was born. My mum is a daddy’s little girl.” Her voice dropped to a reverent hush. “Is he here?”

(OI!!! HEY!!! HEYYYYYY!!!)

(– I hear you. Greetings, spirit.)

Our eyes met, and we smiled at each other. Once he knew he had my attention, the old gentleman began to fire away in a Chinese dialect I didn’t recognise.

Once we cross over to the light, there is no need for language; spirits communicate telepathically. However, this old gentleman was clearly too excited to care. By sheer force of habit, his tongue had taken over, and he was so filled with JOY and AMAZEMENT and HERE’S MY CHANCE TO PASS A MESSAGE TO MY LOVED ONES that I couldn’t calm him down, try as I might.

“Ummm, you’re looking a little dazed. Is everything ok?”

– Yeah. Just a moment, Alicia.

By then, the old gentleman had figured out that I wasn’t conversant in the dialect he spoke. Brow furrowed, he stood with hands on hips, deep in thought. Then his face lit up as a bright idea came to him.

The spirit of Alicia’s paternal grandfather then began enacting an elaborate charade of health conditions to me, with great deliberation. I narrated his actions as best I could to a very bemused Alicia.

– He’s pointing at his feet and grimacing. Now he’s smacking the right side of his head repeatedly, a migraine issue maybe? … What? He’s squatting and, ummm, pointing at his backside, and now he’s pretending to faint?

Oh good grief, I thought to myself, I sound like an idiot. But to my surprise, Alicia was nodding and smiling.

“My mum has sore feet because her retail job requires her to be on her feet all the time. Yes, she’s on medication for her migraine. She also… suffers from piles, and at one point it was so bad she became anaemic and was always giddy. She’s scared of going to the loo now.”

While Alicia was speaking, Granddad looked on with great pride and satisfaction at his granddaughter. After the first flush of excitement, he finally calmed down enough to communicate with me telepathically.

(TELL HER IT’S OK. DON’T BE SHY. SEE A DOCTOR.)

– Please let your mum know that your granddad wants her to see a doctor.

“Agh, that’s the problem! She’s too shy and embarrassed to do anything about the piles. But now that her beloved daddy has told her to, hopefully she’ll change her mind.”

Alicia grinned mischievously at me.

“Wait till I tell my family how Granddad appeared and played charades!”

The stories on this website (including the above recount) are based on Kelly’s personal and professional experiences as a lightworker. Some details have been changed to protect the identities of the individuals involved.

He walked out when his dog was dying. Now his dog is back… with a message.

Across the table at the café, his presence was dominating. Tall, tanned, and a strapping alpha male, Adrian was a successful young man who believed in the need to balance the material with the spiritual. Hence his decision to see me: to ensure his plans for his future (mainly finance and career) were on track.

Coming from a poor and broken household had taught Adrian to be strong. He’d pulled himself up by his own bootstraps and was now doing well as a business consultant; on the side, his investments in property were yielding rewards. Adrian had it made.

Except for one thing that was still troubling him, and that he wasn’t telling me. Out of respect for his wishes, Spirit didn’t reveal any details to me, either.

“Thanks, Kelly! Appreciate the sound advice. Last year was tough but I’m ready for the new year! May I get you a drink?”

– Sure! Chamomile tea, please.

I always enjoy getting to know my clients outside of readings. Also, my next client had just texted me to say she was running late, so I had the time.

“My friend, who referred me to you, says you can see spirit guides and angels! Do I have any?” Adrian stirred his espresso, a boyish grin on his face.

– Oh of course! We all are born with a team of guides and angels to help us.

“Fantastic. Can you see mine?”

– Your angel is standing behind you right now, and he’s holding a medium-sized brown dog in his arms. The dog looks very happy to see you.

Adrian froze. His smile vanished; the haunted look in his eyes that had flickered on and off during the reading was there again.

Finally, he muttered: “After what I did to him, he’s still happy to see me?”

– Your dog wants to pass a message. Would you like to hear it?

Adrian nodded slowly, his eyes fixed on his coffee. He’d seemingly aged in seconds.

– He wants you to know that he understands why you couldn’t be with him when he passed on, and he loves you anyway. He’s very happy on the other side, and says thank you for making the decision to end his suffering.

Adrian did not move or reply. His eyes were misty with suppressed grief.

After some moments, he drew in a shuddering breath and told me his story.

Adrian loved dogs but could not afford to keep one until he was drawing his own salary. Once he could afford a pet, Adrian went to a shelter and adopted a mixed breed puppy called Sammy.

“We were best buddies. Maybe because we both knew what it’s like to be abandoned. Sammy never let me down. We had eight good years together.

“Then cancer struck. I took Sammy to five vets and therapists. Got him the best treatment. Fed him organic food. But he was slipping away before my eyes.

“On the last day, he couldn’t move. He was lying there and shivering and crying. When the vet came to put him to sleep I just lost it. I thought I was strong – but I walked out of the room. I couldn’t sleep for weeks after that.

“That was six months ago. When Sammy needed me most, I ran like a coward. I couldn’t even say goodbye. How could he still be happy to see me?”

– Adrian, Sammy thinks you’re very brave. And he trusts that you will be able to forgive yourself, accept his message and his love, and move on.

Adrian looked at me, his eyes dark and confused. “I thought I was moving on, but obviously I haven’t. How do I move on?”

I tuned in to Sammy, who was only too glad to help.

– Sammy’s showing me a location in the west. I get the sense he’s saying you left something behind?

“He was put to sleep at a vet clinic in the west, near Holland Village… Wait. Sammy’s ashes. I didn’t collect them. They’re still there.”

– I think collecting them might be the first step towards your healing. You haven’t allowed yourself to grieve. Maybe it’s time to start.

Adrian paused, and nodded. The haunted look in his eyes was gone, replaced with a softer light of sorrow, relief and consolation.

Life had taught Adrian to be strong, to face every challenge with courage. I had faith that Sammy’s loving message had begun the process of healing for him. The journey would not be easy, but would be worth every step. As we sipped our drinks, I said a silent prayer for Adrian’s spirit guides and angels to help him along his path towards greater love, truth and light.

A mother may pass on, but her love never ends.

I wouldn’t have known that the sharply dressed man sitting across me at the table had anything to be sad about. He was the picture of success: charismatic, wealthy, dignified. Yet the tears were real, and they were flowing.

Success sometimes comes at a price – you have to keep working at it. And working was what this businessman, who owned one of Southeast Asia’s largest rice production and distribution firms, was good at. So good, that when his beloved mother passed on, he couldn’t reach the hospice in time.

He bore all the costs of the funeral, but couldn’t attend it.

And in the six weeks that followed, he couldn’t forgive himself.

The man before me was broken. He’d been having nightmares of his mother angrily berating him for not being there. He wanted to know if there was any way I could help him appease his mother’s spirit.

I reached across the table.

– Take my hand.

Our hands interlinked, I closed my eyes, and connected.

*          *          *

The first thing I discovered, I already knew. I sensed no negativity against this man. His dreams were manifestations of his own grief and anxiety.

My second discovery surprised me: his mother wasn’t around.

Uh oh, I thought. I’d assumed that his mother would turn up with a message, my client would be comforted, and yay it’s all good. But the spiritual realm is always dynamically evolving, never stale or predictable, and that’s one of the things I love about working with Spirit.:)

It was up to me to pursue the energetic link and find the deceased lady. And find her, I did – in the middle of a rice field surrounded by misty mountains, enjoying the breeze on a golden summer evening. And there, we had a chat.

*          *          *

“She’s not angry with me?”
– No, she loves you. She knows you were busy when she passed on. She wants you to forgive yourself.

“Where is she now?”
– In her hometown in Thailand, visiting her childhood haunts. Your family has been growing rice for some generations.

He smiled weakly, for the first time in the entire session. “Yes, it’s a family business. Will she come to see me soon?”
– Yes, in the next month or so.

“When? How will I know?”
– Ask for a sign. When it happens, you will know.

*          *          *

Some weeks later, I received a message:

“Big jam on expressway. Truck dropped a crate. Rice everywhere. Are you free this week?”

Why yes, I was.:)

The stories on this website (including the above recount) are based on Kelly’s personal and professional experiences as a lightworker. Some details have been changed to protect the identities of the individuals involved.

A sign from Spirit heals her wounded soul. Could this happen for you?

Sunday morning. She was sixteen, alone in her room, and crying.

She was supposed to be getting ready for church, a weekly endurance session that she dreaded and loathed. As much as she enjoyed meeting Spirit and helping other people during church services, the stress of doing what she did – and of being misunderstood time and again – was taking its toll on her.

She hated Sundays. She hated feeling lonely in a crowd. The other teenagers who attended the youth service with her were too interested in their studies and the opposite sex to listen, much less care, about her experiences. The adults viewed her mostly with suspicion and disdain, half-aware of her gifts, and resentful towards her for having them.

Only the Bishop and a few of the church staff were truly appreciative of her contributions. They knew she could see, sense and hear from Spirit. They called her in when they needed her assistance in seeking Spiritual counsel and predictions (what was called the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge and the word of prophecy in those circles).

They would bring her into the office very discreetly, ask her to tune into Spirit, thank her, then let her go back to the congregation… where she faced the gossip and mockery. Alone.

OMG it’s Kelly the loony. Don’t go near her, she might tell you something you don’t wanna hear. She sees spirits! She’s so weird!

I can’t stand that Kelly. She’s so high-and-mighty and thinks she knows everything, with her Spiritual gifts and all that. In the first place, can she prove she’s really gifted?

I don’t allow my daughter to talk to that Kelly. God knows what demons are possessing that girl. I pray for her soul.

Sunday morning. Sixteen, alone in her room, and crying. With the radio turned up so no one could hear.

Then a song came on that caught her attention.

You’re one in a million / Once in a lifetime / You made me discover one of the stars above us

Suddenly, Spirit was powerfully present in her room. A glorious light, an almost inaudible hum, was suffusing the messy little bedroom with divine love, peace and joy.

She opened her eyes, red and swollen from an hour of tears.

A gentleman, dressed in a sharp grey suit with a fedora to match, was seated at the chair by her desk. From His warm smile, and the scarred wounds on His hands and bare feet, she knew Who this divine visitor was.

She smiled back, and let Spirit heal her through song. What had been a simple pop song was now a sign and a message from Spirit, reminding her of her true worth, and giving her the love and strength to go on.

After a while, she got up, got dressed, and went to church.

*          *          *

“I think of my father every day. It’s been a year but I still can’t believe he’s gone.”

The middle-aged woman across the table from me had been weeping since the reading began. Unhealed grief can be devastating, and Petunia, my client, had been struggling for a long time.

Behind her, Petunia’s father stood by, his hand on her shoulder and look of loving concern on his face.

– Petunia, your father is well. He wants you to know he’s been leaving signs for you to notice his presence. Have you noticed anything out of the ordinary happening lately?

Petunia frowned as she tried to recall. “No, but to be fair, I’m so stuck right now I wouldn’t notice any sign unless it was very obvious.”

– Sure. I understand. Wait a minute. Your father is trying to tell me something.

The old gentleman beamed. Ask her about the coins!

– Petunia, your father is saying something about coins, have you been finding or picking up coins more frequently nowadays?

“… Now that you mention it, yes. Recently I’ve been finding coins on the floor. Just yesterday I picked up an old one-cent coin that had been out of circulation for years. I thought it was strange…”

Nothing strange about that, Penny, I did it! The old gentleman replied.

– … Did your father call you by a nickname, by the way?

Petunia stared into the distance, her eyes red and swollen. “Yes. He called me Penny.”

It took a few moments for the meaning of the coins to become clear, but once it did, the joy and relief on her face were ecstatic.

“That was my father? He did all that just to remind me that he’ll always watch out for me? Oh my god. Oh my god!

– Yup. He was saying Hi, Penny.

Petunia was laughing and crying now. The tears on her face were tears of joy, healing, and reunion with a father she thought she’d lost to death… but who had been showing her signs of his love all the while.

“Oh my god. Of all things, Penny. My father always loved a good pun. Thank you, Kelly. Thank you.”

*          *          *

She wasn’t crying. She couldn’t feel any sorrow or anger… anything.

The divorce had begun. Her soon-to-be-ex had filed. He’d cast aside his godly Christian pretences and was finally showing his true, vicious colours.

She’d stopped going to church for years. She was tired of everything. After years of being derided, misunderstood and backstabbed, she’d finally walked away from her gifts, her allies in Spirit, and her soul’s calling.

She was at a point in her life where nothing made sense and there was no one to talk to. Also, money was tight. Alone in the cafe, she sipped her tea and wondered how she was going to pay for a divorce lawyer on top of all her other bills.

Then a song came on that caught her attention.

You’re one in a million / Once in a lifetime / You made me discover one of the stars above us

She hadn’t heard that song for years. Instinctively, she widened her eyes and looked around. After a second, she realised the mistake she’d made and ducked her head down again. But she was too late.

Spirit knew that she’d noticed the sign.

She felt a warmth behind her, and a hand on her shoulder. Her spirit guide, Lindsay, was smiling at her.

Kelly, do not fear this latest battle you must fight. Spirit is with you. You’re going to be okay. It is time to return to the Light. God is greater than any church or man-made organisation. You can serve the Light powerfully, both within and without a religious institution.  Let us know once you’re ready to work with us again, and we’ll give you the guidance you need.

And with that, Lindsay disappeared.

She took a deep breath. Despite her running away, Spirit had never once given up hope on her, but was waiting patiently for the day she would finally stop to listen to Spirit’s song of unconditional love.

What had been a simple pop song was now a sign and a message from Spirit, reminding her of her true worth, and giving her the love and strength to go on.

Soon after the incident, she returned to the service of the highest Light, and became a lightworker.

When seeking Spirit, intention is key. Find out more, here.

She texts me at 10 in the morning. She wants a session at lunchtime.

“I really need clarity right now,” the text reads. “My boyfriend just broke up with me, now my job is in trouble.”

Her energy is brittle and dark. I text back.

– When did the break-up happen?

“Two hours ago. He’s my manager.”

– I don’t usually accept last-minute appointments unless they’re emergencies. Has anything happened that is causing you to seek a reading so urgently?

Over the next quarter of an hour, she floods my phone with long, rambling texts complaining about her miserable life, interspersed with profanities and full of bitterness. I don’t even know her name.

I reply.

– What exactly do you want from a reading?

Her response is as confusing as it is vicious. She wants to know her ex-boyfriend’s motives, whether there is a third party, whether she has a chance at reconciling, what will happen to her job, and how she can take revenge on “that b——” if he refuses to get back with her.

– Your request for a reading is coming from a place of panic, rage and hatred. There’s no point asking for one now. I suggest you take a time-out and get a reading when you’re feeling less upset.

She goes hysterical. First she begs. Then she offers to pay me double my rate. When I refuse, she becomes threatening.

“I’ll find another reader. There are many good psychics in Singapore. I offered you so much money. Are you sure your answer is no? Do you know how to run a business?”

– If Spirit guides me to say no to a seeker, I will do so. Yes, I’m sure my answer is a no. Yes, I know how to run a business. All best finding another psychic. Goodbye.

She doesn’t reply.

I blacklist her number. I have no patience for rude and stupid behaviour. (Yes, I’m human too!)

I later find out that she is the acquaintance of a long-time client, Pat. Pat apologises profusely over the incident and explains to me that this acquaintance did, in the end, seek out a psychic who was well-known for her gifts… as well as her ruthlessness when it comes to spotting (and exploiting) vulnerable customers.

Let’s just say that psychic knows how to run a business.

In her emotionally distraught state, this tormented soul forked out a total of $5,000 SGD (that’s about $3,620 USD for you international readers) for a three-hour spiritual reading and healing session, as well as a ten-session package deal that was valid for a year. So she did get what she wanted in the end.

Not that it helped. According to Pat, she’s stuck at the same job, single, and miserable.

*       *       *

The phone rings. It’s an unfamiliar number.

“Hello? Is this Kelly?”

It’s 1 a.m. in the morning. I’m seriously annoyed.

– Who is this? Do you have any idea what time it is now?!

Her voice falters. “… My name is Trixie. I’m so sorry to disturb you. I’m just a little messed up right now.” Her voice cracks, and she quietly starts to cry.

Her energy is confused and grieving. I’m exhausted from a busy day at work, but my heart softens for her.

– Tell me what happened briefly, and call me back tomorrow if you want a session.

“… We just cremated my brother this evening. He was murdered last week. I just want to know who did it, and if he’s alright on the other side. I’m sorry I called so late… I’ve lost track of time. My family and I haven’t slept for days.”

Trixie breaks down, sobbing. I offer my condolences, and encourage her to get some sleep.

I perform a journey meditation the next day, during which my spirit team and I search the realms for her brother’s soul to ascertain whether a reading would be appropriate, and when.

I find him in the shadow space between realms. As expected, he is still in a state of transition – all newly deceased souls are – and deeply shocked that his young life has ended so abruptly. He needs time to accept what has happened, cross over fully into the Light, and settle into his new life in Spirit.

I ask my spirit guides when it would be appropriate for Trixie and her brother to connect via a mediumship session. The answer I receive is Seven months.

I relay this to Trixie. She misses her brother terribly, but decides to wait. In the meantime, she sees me for a consultation where some counselling and healing work is done.

When the mediumship session finally takes place and Trixie connects with her brother, the healing and closure Trixie receives from Spirit are profound, intense, and sacred.

*       *       *

In the realm of Spirit, in all of life itself, intention is key.

Whatever it is you seek – a reading, a healing, a soulmate, a career – the level at which you set your intention will determine the level of whatever responds to you.

We see this happen many times, in many ways. Desperate women date jerks, insecure job-seekers accept poorly-paid positions, combative youths are killed by rival gangs, and unstable clients are conned by unethical psychics. These people are slaves to their emotions, their ego and their circumstances, and they live the lives of slaves – trapped, in denial, and miserable.

What do you desire? Do you not deserve a life better than that of a slave?

If a better life is what you desire, then intention is key.

In whatever you do, set your intention first to be the attainment of the highest and greatest good for all. There is incredible power when one’s intention is pure, and it automatically draws the best possible energies to you.

Have faith! The Universe is watching, and ever ready to bless those whose intentions are pure. It’s not always easy, but definitely worth the effort of setting your sights on higher and better things.

And for the love of God, DON’T call lightworkers in the wee hours of the morning!😀

“Here nao.” The true story of a girl who didn’t believe in Spirit, and the dog who loved her.

Within five minutes, we bonded over our love of animals.

It turned out that my new client, Yvonne, had loved and kept birds, cats, dogs and hamsters at various points in her life. She was loving and responsible, giving her pets the best care possible until they drew their last breath. My kind of person. :)

Yvonne wasn’t there to chat about pets, though. She’d booked a session with me to ask for insights into her career. Interestingly enough, she didn’t believe in mediums, Spirit or the Tarot, but had come across my Facebook page and “felt drawn to make contact”.

“I trust my gut feel. Okay, tell me how this works and let’s get started.”

Definitely my kind of person. 😀

Out came the cards. Unless a spirit manifests and is particularly insistent on getting a message across, I generally start with just the Tarot to ease newbies into the process.

Beware of conflict in two weeks. Your co-worker’s a pain? This card here is The Moon: it represents confusion. I sense that he isn’t shutting down your ideas, he’s just unsure —

ARF.

— Say what?

I looked up, confused myself. Yvonne stared back at me, nonplussed.

HERE NAO.

A large golden retriever had appeared beside her. He sat on the floor, tail wagging lazily, smiling at me. Cheeky little soul.

U SAY HERE NAO.

I looked back at The Moon. This card depicts a full moon in the night sky, a lobster crawling out of a lake onto a winding path, a dog and a wolf on opposite sides. This card represents confusion. Its advice: trust your gut feel.

The dog in the card; the dog beside Yvonne. A particularly insistent spirit.

— Yvonne, did you have a golden retriever?
“Yeah, he died last year. His name was Smurf…”
ARF. SMOOF HERE. SAY.

— Yvonne, Smurf wants you to know he’s here with you.

She looked doubtful. “I’m not sure if animals have souls.”

Smurf looked at her, then at me. His smile never broke once. And in his eyes, a twinkle: challenge accepted.

The next spread featured the Eight of Cups: a woman navigating a new path, and by her side… dog.

Next spread. The Fool: a young traveller accompanied by… dog.

Next. Nine of Cups: a genie by the beach, and with him… dog.

Yvonne was amazed. “Are there many dogs in the Tarot?”
— Ummm, no actually.

U SAY SMOOF HERE NAOOOOOO!!!!!!!

“Today’s the first anniversary of his death.” Her tears came suddenly; she had to pause for a moment. “Sometimes I sense he’s here… not possible… he’s gone.”

Then the weeping began, and she couldn’t talk anymore. Loyal in life and even after, Smurf gently laid his head on her lap.

Disbelief can crush the spirit.

My readings usually conclude with a final message, where clients ask Spirit to tell them what they need to know at this point in their lives. No question is required; the client simply chooses the cards. By now, Yvonne was dazed and silent, absently picking out cards from the deck.

In her final message, The Moon.
You are confused; trust your gut feel.

Yvonne was completely quiet and still.

— Yvonne. Yvonne?
“Yeah, I’m listening.”
— Are you okay?
“Yes.” The crying had stopped for some time. “I’m okay.”
— Are you still unsure if Smurf’s around?

Yvonne was gazing at The Moon, a distant look in her eyes.
“Not anymore,” she finally replied. “He’s here.”

HERE NAO.

Yvonne was smiling again. So was Smurf.

She bought a favourite antique, but didn’t expect THIS bonus gift from Spirit!

These are a few of my favourite things:
Music. (Most) animals. Peppermint tea. The smell of rain. My brother’s AWESOME hand-made chocolate ice cream. What are yours?

And if people can have favourite things, can spirits, too?

*          *          *

Friday evening, several years ago. I was 13, tagging along with my parents as we shopped at the mall. We were in no rush, and somehow ended up in an antique furniture shop.

I fell in love with a vintage camera, of a model that I’d grown up seeing but which had slowly disappeared over the years as sleeker versions emerged in the market.

Once she saw my interest, the shopkeeper offered a 90% discount (I’m not kidding), and was practically pleading with us to buy it.

So we did, and I placed my new buy on the night table beside my bed. Later, while dozing off, I wondered how something so rare could be so affordable.

That night and the next three nights, I found out why.

Night terrors. A sense I was being watched as I slept. Vivid dreams of a pale, unknown face staring at me. A woman’s voice, singing beside my bed every night at 3 am.

After that, I placed the camera back in its box and kept it in the storeroom. I was disappointed but frankly, terrified.

*          *          *

Fast forward to 2013. As I grew, I learnt how to use my spiritual gifts for the highest good, and gained a better understanding of Spirit.

The camera had long been forgotten, still kept in the storeroom.

It was late at night. I was surfing the net and came across an article on the topic of antiques and how, sometimes, they come with spirits. Not the evil, cursed ghosts that the media loves to sensationalise – but the owners who, when they were alive, cherished their favourite possessions. Just like you and I.

For some reason, my mind drifted to that camera.
I’m sure its previous owner was waiting for that moment!:)

She practically CHARGED into my space. Shocks of light blitzed across my inner eye, over and over again, and each time I saw her rapidly drawing closer. I sensed her excitement, her joy – finally, Kelly understands me! – as she approached. I couldn’t help but smile.

This was no demon, but a little old lady, immaculately groomed with a hairdo like Lucy’s from the TV show ‘I Love Lucy’, except her hair was all white. She walked with an energetic, yet dainty stride: a very lovable spirit.

She smiled kindly at me and I thought to myself: THIS was the spirit that scared the s*** out of me all those years ago?

Then the scene changed. We’d gone back to the past, and were standing in a large living room, decorated lavishly in the Peranakan style. There I saw the old lady, seated on an ornate antique rosewood chair and pointing the camera – her camera – at a vase of pink hydrangeas beside her.

Welcome to my home, dear! My name is Eileen, she said.

Eileen clicked the button and took a picture of the hydrangeas, her face beaming proudly. Then she set the camera down on her lap and looked at it meditatively.

They don’t make good cameras like these anymore, she said gently. My son purchased this for me when he saw how much I loved my flowers, and how sad I would become when they wilted. Take photographs, Mum! He would say. Then they will live forever.

Eileen smiled fondly, her gaze upon the hydrangeas, the camera on her lap.

Quietly, she began to sing.

A meeting with Spirit triggers her confession… and her healing.

“I don’t know what it is about me and men.”

I didn’t know either. The young woman beside me was smart, gorgeous, and charmingly vivacious. Seated next to each other by chance at a McDonald’s, we’d struck up a conversation that led to the topic of many lengthy female discussions: oh, MEN!

“I’ve been with many great guys,” she admitted. “But there’s always some kind of barrier. Then we break up.” She smiled, but her eyes were melancholy.

As she talked, I sensed Spirit approaching.

A little boy appeared nearby, a slight distance from her. And there he stood, staring at me. He glowed with the pure light you would identify with innocence and childhood. This was someone who had crossed over to the light very early on.

The woman paused and glanced at me. “You okay?”
– Yeah, I’m fine.
“You look like you have something to say.”

I generally don’t talk to people about Spirit unless they ask. Interestingly, what originally sparked off our conversation was her interest in my Tarot cards, which I’d been shuffling when she came along and sat beside me. She was open to Spirit. So I decided to try.

– I see a very young boy, and he’s saying, Sister, sister.

The woman’s face turned pale. She quickly looked away. Her fists clenched instinctively on her lap, as if holding on to something. Then slowly, she turned back to me, smiling sadly.

She then spoke quietly, carefully, as if each word were a sigh, carved out from the very depths of her soul.

“My brother was born when I was five. My parents wanted a son. So he was the favourite child. Overnight, I became nothing.

“He died when he was three. He had a viral infection. The first night he was admitted to hospital, I saw a shooting star in the sky. So I made a wish. I wished he was dead, and I got my wish. When he really did pass away I was a little sad, but so, so happy. I thought my parents would stop ignoring me once he was gone, and they’d love me again.

“No. It never happened.”

She looked relieved, as if telling this story lifted a suffocating burden off her shoulders.

“At the funeral, my mother was crying so loudly. I was looking at her, wondering if she would ever cry for me like that. It seemed that even when he was dead, he was still winning. I could never win.

“I tell everyone I’m an only child. I’m still so… insecure. It’s time to let go, isn’t it?”

Her eyes softened and for a moment I saw, behind the confident façade, a little girl who never felt good enough. Who learnt from a young age that she had to fight twice as hard for half the love, that she had to be strong, because the world was unfair and life would hurt you and no one could be trusted.

I discreetly glanced over to where the little boy had been.
He was gone. Little Brother’s job was done.

The woman was gazing into the distance, deep in reverie. Her posture was relaxed. I sensed something lighter in her spirit.

The weight of her confession was lifted from her soul.
In telling her story, this lovely young woman had begun to heal.

He wasn’t there when she crossed over. This was EXACTLY what she wanted.

I didn’t like the dress I was wearing. A little black dress, chic and comfy.

Nah, the dress wasn’t the problem. The problem was that I was wearing it again… to another funeral.

Eve was a close family friend. She was a beautiful free spirit and a fighter, beating cancer twice but finally, slowly, succumbing to another illness.

In the open coffin, Eve was tiny, frail, unrecognisable. I looked away.

Then, I sensed the signs: a Spirit was approaching. There was a heaviness in the air, a sense that time was slowing down. The veil between the worlds was thinning. I closed my eyes and tuned in.

And there she stood before me: Eve in Spirit, radiating divine Light, healthy and beautiful.

Could you pass a message? Eve asked.

– Sure.

Vincent, Eve’s husband, was slumped in his seat at the back of the hall. For months, he had been watching over Eve, who had slipped into a coma in the last six weeks. Finally, Vincent could no longer delay his work commitments. He went to Zurich for an important meeting, leaving on Tuesday and returning on Friday.

Eve died Thursday night.

Vincent had the pale, haunted look of someone who had cried so much they had no tears left. The look of someone lost, in shock, endlessly blaming themselves for not being there when it mattered most.

I went over.

– Vincent, she’s not gone entirely, only behind a veil. Don’t blame yourself for what happened. She left while you were overseas to spare you the pain of the actual parting. She wants you to remember her with joy.

“Is there anything… anything I can do for her?” Vincent’s voice was low and broken, betraying his suffering.

– She’s showing me a nature reserve, where you two used to go for walks. She wants you to go back there and catch the sunset! Also, she specifically mentions the fish n’ chips you both used to enjoy after your walks, at the café near the nature reserve.

Vincent was gazing in the distance. He seemed to be reminiscing. In his eyes, a soft new light was beginning to dawn.

– She wants you to eat well, get some fresh air, and be happy. Know that she is with you. And when it’s finally your time to go, she will be by your side to lead you home.

Vincent burst into tears. But this time, they were the best kind of tears – tears of grief, yes, but also release, self-forgiveness, and love.
