She texts me at 10 in the morning. She wants a session at lunchtime.

“I really need clarity right now,” the text reads. “My boyfriend just broke up with me, now my job is in trouble.”

Her energy is brittle and dark. I text back.

– When did the break-up happen?

“Two hours ago. He’s my manager.”

– I don’t usually accept last-minute appointments unless they’re emergencies. Has anything happened that is causing you to seek a reading so urgently?

Over the next quarter of an hour, she floods my phone with long, rambling texts complaining about her miserable life, interspersed with profanities and full of bitterness. I don’t even know her name.

I reply.

– What exactly do you want from a reading?

Her response is as confusing as it is vicious. She wants to know her ex-boyfriend’s motives, whether there is a third party, whether she has a chance at reconciling, what will happen to her job, and how she can take revenge on “that b——” if he refuses to get back with her.

– Your request for a reading is coming from a place of panic, rage and hatred. There’s no point asking for one now. I suggest you take a time-out and get a reading when you’re feeling less upset.

She goes hysterical. First she begs. Then she offers to pay me double my rate. When I refuse, she becomes threatening.

“I’ll find another reader. There are many good psychics in Singapore. I offered you so much money. Are you sure your answer is no? Do you know how to run a business?”

– If Spirit guides me to say no to a seeker, I will do so. Yes, I’m sure my answer is a no. Yes, I know how to run a business. All best finding another psychic. Goodbye.

She doesn’t reply.

I blacklist her number. I have no patience for rude and stupid behaviour. (Yes, I’m human too!)

I later find out that she is the acquaintance of a long-time client, Pat. Pat apologises profusely over the incident and explains to me that this acquaintance did, in the end, seek out a psychic who was well-known for her gifts… as well as her ruthlessness when it comes to spotting (and exploiting) vulnerable customers.

Let’s just say that psychic knows how to run a business.

In her emotionally distraught state, this tormented soul forked out a total of $5,000 SGD (that’s about $3,620 USD for you international readers) for a three-hour spiritual reading and healing session, as well as a ten-session package deal that was valid for a year. So she did get what she wanted in the end.

Not that it helped. According to Pat, she’s stuck at the same job, single, and miserable.

The phone rings. It’s an unfamiliar number.

“Hello? Is this Kelly?”

It’s 1 a.m. in the morning. I’m seriously annoyed.

– Who is this? Do you have any idea what time it is now?!

Her voice falters. “… My name is Trixie. I’m so sorry to disturb you. I’m just a little messed up right now.” Her voice cracks, and she quietly starts to cry.

Her energy is confused and grieving. I’m exhausted from a busy day at work, but my heart softens for her.

– Tell me what happened briefly, and call me back tomorrow if you want a session.

“… We just cremated my brother this evening. He was murdered last week. I just want to know who did it, and if he’s alright on the other side. I’m sorry I called so late… I’ve lost track of time. My family and I haven’t slept for days.”

Trixie breaks down, sobbing. I offer my condolences, and encourage her to get some sleep.

I perform a journey meditation the next day, during which my spirit team and I search the realms for her brother’s soul to ascertain whether a reading would be appropriate, and when.

I find him in the shadow space between realms. As expected, he is still in a state of transition – all newly deceased souls are – and deeply shocked that his young life has ended so abruptly. He needs time to accept what has happened, cross over fully into the Light, and settle into his new life in Spirit.

I ask my spirit guides when it would be appropriate for Trixie and her brother to connect via a mediumship session. The answer I receive is Seven months.

I relay this to Trixie. She misses her brother terribly, but decides to wait. In the meantime, she sees me for a consultation where some counselling and healing work is done.

When the mediumship session finally takes place and Trixie connects with her brother, the healing and closure Trixie receives from Spirit are profound, intense, and sacred.

In the realm of Spirit, in all of life itself, intention is key.

Whatever it is you seek – a reading, a healing, a soulmate, a career – the level at which you set your intention will determine the level of whatever responds to you.

We see this happen many times, in many ways. Desperate women date jerks, insecure job-seekers accept poorly-paid positions, combative youths are killed by rival gangs, and unstable clients are conned by unethical psychics. These people are slaves to their emotions, their ego and their circumstances, and they live the lives of slaves – trapped, in denial, and miserable.

What do you desire? Do you not deserve a life better than that of a slave?

If a better life is what you desire, then intention is key.

In whatever you do, set your intention first to be the attainment of the highest and greatest good for all. There is incredible power when one’s intention is pure, and it automatically draws the best possible energies to you.

Have faith! The Universe is watching, and ever ready to bless those whose intentions are pure. It’s not always easy, but definitely worth the effort of setting your sights on higher and better things.

And for the love of God, DON’T call lightworkers in the wee hours of the morning!?
