Why I do what I do: snippets from my Tarot readings at public events, Part 1.

June 2015. My mobile phone had been beeping almost non-stop for hours. Suitcase in tow, I smiled. Hang on, guys, my hands are full now! But my SMS and WhatsApp notifications kept up their merry tones as I entered Suntec Convention Hall for the inaugural Public Garden Consumer Trade Show.

Once I’d finished setting up my booth, I could finally reply to the texts and a couple of missed calls. I knew what most of these would be asking me: Kelly, are you there yet? Where’s your booth? How long is the queue? I’ll get you something to eat, what would you like?

(Much love to the wonderful clients and friends who remind me to take meals/breaks during Public Garden events… you know who you are!) 😉

I’d barely sat down when the first seeker turned up. And so the day began.

*          *          *

A reading is really a very simple thing. Even more so when it’s only fifteen minutes long, in the middle of a buzzing hipster market.

I begin every reading with a simple prayer of intention for the highest love and light to touch the seeker’s life. Then, I hold the cards in my hands and cleanse them with prayer, clearing out all old energies and filling them with God’s light so that they will be a pure, clear channel for Spirit to convey the best guidance, healing and insight to the seeker.

Then the reading starts… And once it begins, anything goes.

Sometimes the seeker asks a question and chooses the cards to obtain Spirit’s answers. Sometimes the cards pop up by themselves while I’m shuffling. Sometimes guardian Angels, Spirit guides and deceased loved ones come forward to channel messages through me, without waiting for the cards!

But one thing all these phenomena have in common: they occur as signs – for us to understand that Spirit is on our side and wants only the best for us. That we are loved and not alone. That we have the right, responsibility and power to co-create our destinies.

And that in the larger scheme of things, no matter how badly our lives seem to toss and turn – the Universe is kind. All will be well.

*          *          *

“Hi, Kelly!” It was Alexis, a client of mine. Beside her was another young woman who kept her head lowered and hidden under her cap.

– Hey babe. Here for a reading?

“Not for me today but could my friend CeeCee just… cut the queue? I saw eight names on the waiting list and she can’t wait that long.”

– Sorry babe, I would love to do you a favour but I have to be fair. For public events I only accept walk-ins, no appointments, and no cutting the line.

I smiled conciliatorily at Alexis, who smiled and nodded understandingly. Behind her, CeeCee glanced up shyly but didn’t look at me. Her face was drawn and tired, her eyes sad and dark. She was beautiful, but damaged – a swan who’d convinced herself she was an unloved and ugly duckling.

CeeCee whispered into Alexis’ ear and left quickly. “Sorry about that, Kelly,” Alexis said as we watched her blend into the crowd. “CeeCee says she’ll book a reading with you next week.”

– No worries, babe. Anyway, that’s my two-minute break over. Next, please!

*          *          *

Hannah crept into the hall fifteen minutes before the Consumer Trade Show ended. She stood by uncertainly, watching me as I finished up a reading.

Then the other seeker got up and left. Hannah froze for a moment, then stepped up to my booth while I was cleansing the cards in prayer.

“Hi, Kelly.” Her voice was flat and faltering – the voice of a woman who hadn’t slept for days. “I’ve been following your Facebook page for a while. I’ve never had a reading before, but I need help.”

I’d already given twenty readings in six hours that day. I was exhausted. But one look at Hannah’s anguished face, and I knew I could give one more.

I smiled, and began shuffling.
– Sure, hun. Sit down.

Almost instantly, the cards began to pop out of the deck.
Crisis. Adultery. Heartbreak. Suicide. Abandonment.

I don’t need to go into the details. But Hannah came seeking help from Spirit at a desperately low point in her life, and Spirit came through for her powerfully – in perfect love, compassion and clarity. As I gave her a hug before she left, Hannah turned her tear-streaked face towards me and whispered, brokenly:

“Thank you for what you do. Thank you. Thank you.”

*          *          *

So why do I do what I do?

Simple: because I love it. It’s my calling: connecting ordinary people with the extraordinary love and light of Spirit. And guess what? If you’re in Singapore, and you’ve always wondered what it’s like to have a Tarot reading with me…

I’ll be at the Public Garden Consumer Trade Show this weekend on 24-25 Sept 2016, offering quickie Angel/Tarot card readings! Details here + below. See you there! 🙂

“I’ll see you again.” A song for our loved ones in Spirit.

If you walked in now,
I wouldn’t start, I wouldn’t frown.
And if you just appeared,
I wouldn’t cry, or think it weird.
‘Cause you are still around;
You’re in the air, you’re in the ground.
And you can’t go away;
I am afraid you’re here to stay.*

She woke up with a start.

Her clock read 3:30 am. Again. Her bedroom door, firmly shut when she went to bed three hours earlier, was wide open.

The fragrance of jasmine incense lingered in the air. Her grandmother would burn it every morning. Her grandmother passed away nine months ago.

She got out of bed and, as she shut the door, whispered into the darkness:

– We are well, grandma. Please don’t worry about us.

*          *          *

Friends don’t understand,
They close the door, they raise their hands.
She says she hears your voice;
Of course she does, she has no choice.
I was hours ahead when they removed you from your bed.
They drank all the wine, until you said goodbye.*

“I hope you can help me. Nobody understands. They think I’m going mad,” Alice said.

Seated at the dining table, I looked around Alice’s flat. It was lovely, except for the deeply painful energies of Alice’s grief that pervaded the entire space. And the spirit of the deceased corgi that sat beside us, love and anxiety clouding her beautiful little furry face as she looked at me pleadingly.

“Sasha’s cancer spread so fast. We did everything we could for her. I was begging her to give me more time to help her find a cure, the right treatment, the right supplements. Then one day she just collapsed. We rushed her to the vet, but she was dead on arrival.

“It’s been two months but I still sense her around me. My family and friends are starting to say I need a psychiatrist. They say I’m just imagining things. But I swear I sometimes see her at the corner of my eye. And I cry for her everyday. I can’t let go, I just can’t -”

Alice began sobbing.

A spirit corgi’s paw gently patted my toes. Help us, please, angel lady, little Sasha whispered.

– Alice, you’re not going mad. Sasha is here with us. But my concern is that Sasha did not go into the Light after her death because she was worried that you would miss her.

Alice nodded tearfully. “Yes. I was afraid that once she crossed over, I’d never see her again. I told her not to go. I can’t live without her. She’s my best friend, my soulmate.”

– You have nothing to fear, Alice. It is necessary for all souls to cross over into the Light after their physical bodies die. This is required for their healing. But death is not the end, only a door. Your deceased loved ones can and often do return to visit. Alice, Sasha loves you, but she’s very tired and needs to heal in heaven. You need to heal too, and the first step is for you to face your grief, and release Sasha into the Light. Will you let her cross over?

Alice stopped weeping. “Am I hindering her healing with my selfishness? Oh my god, I’m so sorry, Sasha, I’m so sorry…” Alice burst into a renewed fit of tears. My heart ached for them both.

– It’s fine, Alice. Now that you know, what do you choose?

“I choose to let go. Sasha deserves only the best… I love you, Sasha.”

I love you too, Mummy. And thank you, angel lady. I’ll be brave when I cross over. You’ll help me, won’t you?

True love gives us the courage, even in the depths of our despair, to do things we never would have thought possible. The bond between Alice and Sasha moved me deeply.

– I will do my best. I promise you both.

Later that night, I conducted a meditation where I invited Archangel Uriel, guardian of the earthly realm, to lead Sasha into the Light to receive her long-awaited healing. I also conducted a long-distance energy healing session for Alice, removing the dark energies of grief that were strangling her heart chakra, and filling her soul with divine love and light.

Healing from grief is a long process that requires time, patience and a lot of love to get through. Alice’s heart was broken, but I have faith that Alice and Sasha’s deep, abiding love for each other will stand the test of separation as they both heal. And one day, I am absolutely certain that Sasha will return to visit, and perhaps even watch over Alice as a spirit guide of Light.

*          *          *

Healthy in my dreams
Is what you are, is what it seems.
What does it all mean?
You’re only hiding behind a screen.
Curse the English day for what it forces us to say.
Banish all the pain;

‘Cause when I die, I’ll see you again.*

One of my best friends died this morning.

His death was completely unexpected. His caretakers had no idea – he was still conscious and responsive last night.

The last time I saw him was Sunday evening – two days ago. As we chatted, the phrase “one or two days more” kept flashing across my inner eye. But I chose to ignore it. Chose to deny it. Kept telling myself that he would get better.

But my gift was right, and I was wrong. Sometimes the gift can almost be a burden.

I rushed down once I got the text message, just in time to touch his cold face for the last time; to say goodbye to the physical shell that had endured so much suffering.

Death is not the end, only a door. True.
What’s also true is that the death of a loved one tears your soul apart like nothing else can.

I’m a lightworker. I channel Spirit. I see dead souls all the time. Of all people, I know pretty damn well that our deceased loved ones can and will return to visit us. We are not forsaken. We are not alone.

I know all this. But it hasn’t stopped me from crying for the past eight hours.

It doesn’t matter who you are – king or beggar, priest or prostitute, scientist or psychic medium – so long as you are alive, one day you will die. And in the course of your life, at least one person or pet you know (and perhaps love very much) will die, and your heart will break. This is the order of things. It is inescapable.

Yet we live our lives as if we were immortal, indestructible. And when Death finally touches us, we cry, we break down, we scream and look for someone to blame. As if Death were a big surprise – when the truth is that Death is only a matter of Time.

To everything in our lives, there is a season. Right now it’s the seventh lunar month, the season of remembrance and mourning for those who observe it.

My heart is with you all in this season of remembrance. Be kind to yourselves, and to each other. It’s what your loved ones in Spirit would desire for you.

Life is precious, and so very fragile. Be well.

Your Angels are always singing over you. Here’s how Lin found out.

Behind every blade of grass is an angel singing, “Grow, grow!”
– Jewish proverb

*          *          *          *          *

Lin had been crying nonstop for two hours.

Two weeks earlier, Lin’s life was turned upside down. Her husband of 20-plus years returned home with his new girlfriend, said he wanted a divorce, and kicked her out. Lin worked part-time as an assistant at her husband’s watch repair shop – so he fired her too.

Lin lost her marriage, her job, and the roof over her head. A 48-year-old secondary school dropout, Lin didn’t have the experience or qualifications required to get a job that would cover her living expenses. Her savings could keep her afloat for one month, two at the most. She was staying with her sister for the time being, but the small flat was badly overcrowded and she would have to find her own place soon.

“He looked down on me because I have nothing. I have no education. I’m old, not pretty anymore. I couldn’t even bear him a child. What am I good for? Why am I alive? I’m worthless… worthless.”

I was quiet. When someone reaches a certain point in despair, any comfort or encouragement sounds like mockery. At these times, silence is best.

After emotional release, the healing can begin. Lin was guided through a prayer of forgiveness, where she released her husband from his karmic debt and more importantly, freed herself from bitterness and the past. After that, we performed a simple cord-cutting meditation where Lin let go of the negative energies, thoughts and emotions that bound her to him. I called on the angelic realm to give Lin strength as she walked through this time of darkness.

At the end of the session, Lin stood up to leave. She was calmer, and beginning to see the light, a twinkling star at the end of a very long tunnel. Suddenly, she jerked her head up and stared at a spot behind my head.

“What’s that?”
– What?

“Those flying things… Spots.” She smiled faintly, for the first time in almost three hours. “So pretty.”

I turned in time to see two orbs, burning golden-white, gliding slowly through the air and passing through the walls. Okay, I thought to myself. That would explain the strong tingles at the back of my head and down my spine for the past half an hour.

– They’re your guardian angels.

“A useless nobody like me can have guardian angels? Really? Then why didn’t they do anything when I needed them?” She sounded almost angry.

– Because they respect your free will. Your right to make your own choices. They can’t intervene unless you ask them to. But now we’ve called on them to help, I’m sure they will. Only believe.

Lin nodded firmly. “I believe,” she said. “After all, I’ve nothing left to lose.”

*          *          *

One month later, Lin called.

“I got a job!” she said excitedly. “I dreamt that the restaurant near my home needed an assistant cook urgently. So when I woke up the next day I went there, and before I went, I asked my angels for a sign. I didn’t want to trouble my angels too much, so I said any sign will do, just make it clear enough for this stupid old woman to see.

“The manager was very nice, she interviewed me for ten minutes, and she told me I could start work the next day. Her name is Angelle.”

*          *          *

The next month, she called again.

“My husband wants me back. Should I go back?”
– It’s up to you. What happened?
“He called me just now. His girlfriend borrowed $20,000 and disappeared overseas. He asked me to lend him some cash. And he says he misses me.”

She was silent for a moment.

“I’ll wait and see. Maybe I will. But even if I don’t go back, I’m not sad or scared anymore. I don’t need him.

“You know, when he kicked me out, I thought I was going to die. A worthless thing like me, how can I survive alone? But I’ve changed. Now I understand.

“I’m not worthless. And I’m not alone. I have angels with me.”

Angels & Angel Cards 101: Connecting with the Angels

In last week’s article, I discussed Spirit cards and how they function. Spirit cards serve essentially as channels for seekers to connect with Spirit and receive messages to help, heal and guide us. In this article, we focus on how Angel cards work and who Angels are.

What are Angel cards, and how do Angel card readings work?

Angel cards usually come in decks of Angelic numbers such as 33 or 44. Each card contains a picture of an Angel or Archangel, along with a keyword and/or message that the Angelic being represents. Every card in the deck is unique; no cards are repeated.

During a reading,  the seeker asks a question. The Angel deck is presented face-down to the seeker. The seeker randomly draws a number of cards from the deck, selecting these cards using his or her intuition, before turning them over to discover the Angels’ answer.

Many times, while the seeker is selecting the cards I can see that person’s guardian angels standing alongside and slightly behind the seeker, gently nudging the seeker to pick certain cards. I sometimes also see the Angels represented in the cards channelling their energies into the deck, giving certain cards an energy boost to attract the seeker to them.

So I can guarantee you this: when you select the cards, you’re not alone. You have an Angelic support team that’s literally behind you all the way, and is willing to intervene in your life once you call on them for assistance!

So who are the Angels, anyway?

I’m glad you asked! Let’s get some facts straight about these awesome, loving and powerful spiritual beings RIGHT NOW. <3

First and foremost, you don’t have to be religious to believe in Angels. Angels exist whether you believe in them or not. They are servants of God, Source, Origin, or whatever you wish to call the Divine Creator Spirit. Like God, the Angels are not constrained by religious belief, cultural tradition, or whether you’re a good or bad person.

We are all born with at least one guardian angel. Their mission is to guide us through this strange little thing called life, and to help us achieve our highest and greatest good possible. After all, we are co-creators of our destiny, and within each of our souls is a spark from the Divine flame. The Angels see the Divine in us, and love us for what we can become. Isn’t that wonderful?

So it doesn’t matter if you’re Christian, Catholic, Buddhist, Muslim, Hindu, pagan, agnostic or atheist – it doesn’t matter who or what you are – your guardian angel exists, loves you unconditionally, and wants the best for you.

Angels are not human. They are a different race of high-vibrational Spirit beings who take on a human-like appearance so as not to scare the crap out of us. So, to answer a frequently-asked question: No, I’m afraid your deceased loved ones don’t become your guardian angels after they cross into the Light. Many of them do return as Spirit Guides, though. Or simply as themselves! (I’ll cover that in the next article, so stay tuned.)

What’s the difference between Angels and Archangels?

In one word: rank. An Angelic hierarchy exists. The top generals in the Angelic host are known as the Archangels. They each have a specific portfolio, and contribute in their own way to anchor more and more Light in a world that needs it so desperately.

The Archangels are powerful enough that they can be in more than one place at a time, so go ahead and call on them whenever you need. Some examples of Archangels and their portfolios include:

  • MICHAEL: The Warrior Archangel and Upholder of God’s truth. He’s the head honcho amongst the Archangels and the most well-known, for good reason! He’s always willing to provide assistance in the service of Light. Call on him for courage, strength under pressure, and protection.
  • GABRIEL: This Archangel’s main task is to act as the messenger of God. Call on him/her (this Archangel is androgynous) for emotional release, the healing and empowerment of the Divine Feminine within your soul, as well as assistance in communicating important messages.
  • RAPHAEL: The Healer. Call on him for healing, recovery and rejuvenation from all sorts of disease and dis-ease, be it physical, mental, or emotional. He also watches over travellers, and it’s good to call on him for protection when going on a trip. Raphael’s keen sense of humour proves that laughter truly is the best medicine.
  • URIEL: Call on this Archangel if you desire a clear perspective in a confusing situation. He’s the Guardian of the earthly realm, and your go-to Archangel for anything to do with environmental conservation, animal rights etc! You can also call on Uriel to help improve your relationship with your pets.

If Angels exist and love me so much, then why do I still have so many problems? Also, how do I call on my guardian angels and the Archangels?

Angels are bound by the Laws of the Universe. As agents of God, they cannot and will not overstep their boundaries. One boundary in particular is set by our free will. You and I have the autonomy to decide how we want to lead our lives, and the Angels will respect our choices. They won’t intervene unless we ask them to – so maybe it’s time to start asking!

How to talk to your angels: Go somewhere peaceful and quiet where you can relax. Make yourself comfortable. Close your eyes if you’d like, and breathe deeply. Concentrate on your breathing until you reach a state of calmness. Then speak to your guardian angels in your mind and heart. No worries, they can read your thoughts.

When you’re done, give them your love and thanks. Then you can end your session of prayer and meditation (yep, that’s what just happened!) with a nap. Or some gentle stretching. Or a burger. Whatever makes you happy. It’s that simple. 🙂

Alternatively, you might like to try an Angel card reading. If so, feel free to book a reading with a Spirit worker you trust, and who works with Angels.

May your connection with the Angels bless your life richly!

Angel Cards, Oracles & The Tarot: Gateways to connecting with Spirit

In this series of articles, we look at how Spirit cards work, and how we can use these tools of Spirit safely and effectively.

For thousands of years, mankind has sought to connect with Spirit in easy and straightforward ways, to gain higher insight into complex situations that demand appropriate solutions. Even today, many people seek a reading when they’re facing issues with their careers, relationships, families or other important aspects of their lives.

So how do Angel cards, oracles and the Tarot work?

First, let’s take a look at a typical Spirit card deck. These cards are usually embellished with pictures, many imbued with spiritual symbols that aid interpretation, and sometimes include a short message. Cards are not repeated in a deck – you only get one of each. Every card represents a different message from Spirit that can be interpreted to address a wide range of contexts.

During a reading, the seeker asks Spirit a question. This question should be phrased clearly and succinctly, so that a specific answer can be given. The seeker then pulls out a number of cards as directed by his or her intuition, or according to a format.

The seeker chooses the cards that feel right to him or her (as a reader, I often see my clients’ guardian angels and deceased loved ones standing behind their shoulders, helping them pick!). The cards are selected face down. They are laid on the table, then turned over to reveal their pictures and messages, and interpreted to answer the question.

Remember that these cards are tools for a connection with Spirit to take place. For this reason, it’s important that you use a deck that you’re comfortable with. Many people love the gentle comfort of Angel card messages; many others prefer the straightforwardness of the Tarot. It’s all good. 🙂

One simple rule when using Spirit cards for yourself: before you start, set your intentions. You can say it out loud as a prayer or silently in your heart. Or you can simply visualise it. In the Spirit realm, intention is everything. It opens the doors for the appropriate Spirit beings to connect with you. So be clear about what your intention is.

Here’s an example of a simple prayer of intention: “It is my intention to work with the Spirits of the Highest Light. I invite Archangel Michael, Lord Ganesha, my guardian angels and my deceased loved ones who have crossed over into the Light to join me in this reading. I will not work with earthbound spirits or entities of darkness – you are not welcome here. So let it be.”

It’s also good that you make sure your space is cleansed and that the deck you’re using is dedicated to the Light. Those posts are coming up! 🙂

If you prefer to seek a Spirit worker for a reading, here are some tips I’ve written that might help in your search for the right professional.

May your connection with Spirit bless your life richly!

Seeking clarity at a crossroads? Call, text or WhatsApp Kelly at 8716 9716 or email for an Angel/Tarot consultation, and I’ll be with you soon.

An angel steps in before she steps off the bridge… and leaves a sign.

3:14 a.m. My phone vibrated twice, then went silent.

The words on the screen jolted me out of my semi-conscious state.

“I can’t go on anymore. Kelly, I’ve let you down. I’m sorry.”

I sat up in bed and called the number. The line was dead. Hazel had switched off her mobile after texting me.

She didn’t want to be stopped. Or found.

There was not much I could do but wait. And pray.

*          *          *

Hazel and I go way back. We were schoolmates who became good friends. We had lots in common and confided in each other when we needed support and advice.

Hazel was popular in school: smart and outgoing, Hazel’s suntanned skin (from years of competitive sailing) brought out her gorgeous eyes and grin. Both guys and girls swooned over her as she swaggered past; teachers shook their heads and tried to hide their fond smiles when she made yet another wisecrack in class.

But Hazel had many dark secrets.

Hazel suffered from depression, and had nightmares almost every night. She frequently considered suicide, especially when she was out at sea, all alone on her sailboat. And here was the reason why:

Hazel wanted to be a man. Her parents, however, were aggressively anti-LGBT. And the celebrity pastors of one of Singapore’s largest megachurches.

*          *          *

I prayed.

– Angels and archangels of the Highest Light, I call on you now. My friend Hazel needs help urgently. So long as it is for her highest good, I ask that you thwart all attempts at self-harm. Heal her and show her that she is dearly loved, and that God is greater than we can ask, think, or imagine. In the Name of all that is good and pure and holy, thank you.

Over the years, I tried to speak with Hazel about Spirit and how God loved her unconditionally. I’d also spoken to Hazel about angels before, but she insisted that she was damned to hell simply for having transsexual inclinations.

Her parents’ own biases and fears had damaged Hazel deeply, creating a person who kept up appearances well but was a wreck inside, crumbling from the weight of shame and self-condemnation.

The air grew warm. I opened my eyes to see an angel smiling at me.

Greetings, dear one.

– Hazel. How is she?

Your friend is safe. As you know, she has chosen a great and wonderful soul calling in this life, which is to stand firm in her truth even if she were to be misunderstood and judged for it. Because of her strength, many lives will be helped.

– But she is not strong now. Her life, sanity and happiness are on the line. This is not her first suicide attempt and it will not be her last. How much longer before she can overcome, servant of God?

The angel smiled again.

She has not yet recognised the strength within herself, but stand by her. And eventually, she will.

With that, the angel left.

I picked up my phone and called Hazel again. The line was dead, still.

*          *          *

She called back three days later.

“Hey, Kelly.”

– Hello, stranger. How are you?

“Something weird happened the last time I texted. Can’t wrap my head around it. You’re the woo-woo spirit person so maybe you could explain.”

– Okay, shoot.

“I was at the Benjamin Sheares bridge when I texted you.”

My heart skipped a beat. It was a long drop from that bridge into the sea. Jumping off Benjamin Sheares bridge at 3 a.m. in the morning? Hazel really didn’t want to be found.

“After I texted you, I switched my phone off. Then I started climbing over the railing. Right at that moment, the row of lights along the bridge just went off suddenly. It was really dark.

“Then from behind me, the air grew warm. All of a sudden. It was cold before that. And then I really freaked out when the air started glowing.”

She paused, as if struggling to find the words for what happened next.

“The glow in the air… I can’t explain. It took shape. I couldn’t see it because it was standing behind me, but I just know it was taking the form of an angel. I don’t know how I know. I just know.

“Suddenly I felt like a weight had lifted from my shoulders. Then I felt like someone was holding me from behind. And I started crying like crazy because I felt that everything was hopeless and my life was terrible but I had to keep on living because one day things will get better and I want to be alive to see that day. And it doesn’t matter that I don’t feel okay now because one day I will be okay. I don’t know how. I just know I have to stay alive.

“I stepped off the railing. Got back on the bridge. The lights came back on after a minute. Right in front of me was a feather. It wasn’t there before.”

We were silent for a moment.

– Spirit loves you, Hazel. Don’t give up on yourself.

“… I want to believe it. One day, I will believe.”

A sign from Spirit heals her wounded soul. Could this happen for you?

Sunday morning. She was sixteen, alone in her room, and crying.

She was supposed to be getting ready for church, a weekly endurance session that she dreaded and loathed. As much as she enjoyed meeting Spirit and helping other people during church services, the stress of doing what she did – and of being misunderstood time and again – was taking its toll on her.

She hated Sundays. She hated feeling lonely in a crowd. The other teenagers who attended the youth service with her were too interested in their studies and the opposite sex to listen, much less care, about her experiences. The adults viewed her mostly with suspicion and disdain, half-aware of her gifts, and resentful towards her for having them.

Only the Bishop and a few of the church staff were truly appreciative of her contributions. They knew she could see, sense and hear from Spirit. They called her in when they needed her assistance in seeking Spiritual counsel and predictions (what was called the word of wisdom, the word of knowledge and the word of prophecy in those circles).

They would bring her into the office very discreetly, ask her to tune into Spirit, thank her, then let her go back to the congregation… where she faced the gossip and mockery. Alone.

OMG it’s Kelly the loony. Don’t go near her, she might tell you something you don’t wanna hear. She sees spirits! She’s so weird!

I can’t stand that Kelly. She’s so high-and-mighty and thinks she knows everything, with her Spiritual gifts and all that. In the first place, can she prove she’s really gifted?

I don’t allow my daughter to talk to that Kelly. God knows what demons are possessing that girl. I pray for her soul.

Sunday morning. Sixteen, alone in her room, and crying. With the radio turned up so no one could hear.

Then a song came on that caught her attention.

You’re one in a million / Once in a lifetime / You made me discover one of the stars above us

Suddenly, Spirit was powerfully present in her room. A glorious light, an almost inaudible hum, was suffusing the messy little bedroom with divine love, peace and joy.

She opened her eyes, red and swollen from an hour of tears.

A gentleman, dressed in a sharp grey suit with a fedora to match, was seated at the chair by her desk. From His warm smile, and the scarred wounds on His hands and bare feet, she knew Who this divine visitor was.

She smiled back, and let Spirit heal her through song. What had been a simple pop song was now a sign and a message from Spirit, reminding her of her true worth, and giving her the love and strength to go on.

After a while, she got up, got dressed, and went to church.

“I think of my father every day. It’s been a year but I still can’t believe he’s gone.”

The middle-aged woman across the table from me had been weeping since the reading began. Unhealed grief can be devastating, and Petunia, my client, had been struggling for a long time.

Behind her, Petunia’s father stood by, his hand on her shoulder and look of loving concern on his face.

– Petunia, your father is well. He wants you to know he’s been leaving signs for you to notice his presence. Have you noticed anything out of the ordinary happening lately?

Petunia frowned as she tried to recall. “No, but to be fair, I’m so stuck right now I wouldn’t notice any sign unless it was very obvious.”

– Sure. I understand. Wait a minute. Your father is trying to tell me something.

The old gentleman beamed. Ask her about the coins!

– Petunia, your father is saying something about coins, have you been finding or picking up coins more frequently nowadays?

“… Now that you mention it, yes. Recently I’ve been finding coins on the floor. Just yesterday I picked up an old one-cent coin that had been out of circulation for years. I thought it was strange…”

Nothing strange about that, Penny, I did it! The old gentleman replied.

– … Did your father call you by a nickname, by the way?

Petunia stared into the distance, her eyes red and swollen. “Yes. He called me Penny.”

It took a few moments for the meaning of the coins to become clear, but once it did, the joy and relief on her face were ecstatic.

“That was my father? He did all that just to remind me that he’ll always watch out for me? Oh my god. Oh my god!

– Yup. He was saying Hi, Penny.

Petunia was laughing and crying now. The tears on her face were tears of joy, healing, and reunion with a father she thought she’d lost to death… but who had been showing her signs of his love all the while.

“Oh my god. Of all things, Penny. My father always loved a good pun. Thank you, Kelly. Thank you.”

She wasn’t crying. She couldn’t feel any sorrow or anger… anything.

The divorce had begun. Her soon-to-be-ex had filed. He’d cast aside his godly Christian pretences and was finally showing his true, vicious colours.

She’d stopped going to church for years. She was tired of everything. After years of being derided, misunderstood and backstabbed, she’d finally walked away from her gifts, her allies in Spirit, and her soul’s calling.

She was at a point in her life where nothing made sense and there was no one to talk to. Also, money was tight. Alone in the cafe, she sipped her tea and wondered how she was going to pay for a divorce lawyer on top of all her other bills.

Then a song came on that caught her attention.

You’re one in a million / Once in a lifetime / You made me discover one of the stars above us

She hadn’t heard that song for years. Instinctively, she widened her eyes and looked around. After a second, she realised the mistake she’d made and ducked her head down again. But she was too late.

Spirit knew that she’d noticed the sign.

She felt a warmth behind her, and a hand on her shoulder. Her spirit guide, Lindsay, was smiling at her.

Kelly, do not fear this latest battle you must fight. Spirit is with you. You’re going to be okay. It is time to return to the Light. God is greater than any church or man-made organisation. You can serve the Light powerfully, both within and without a religious institution.  Let us know once you’re ready to work with us again, and we’ll give you the guidance you need.

And with that, Lindsay disappeared.

She took a deep breath. Despite her running away, Spirit had never once given up hope on her, but was waiting patiently for the day she would finally stop to listen to Spirit’s song of unconditional love.

What had been a simple pop song was now a sign and a message from Spirit, reminding her of her true worth, and giving her the love and strength to go on.

Soon after the incident, she returned to the service of the highest Light, and became a lightworker.
