Kelly is a psychic medium and channel. She offers Tarot readings, animal communication sessions, energy healings, and other lightwork services. She is based in Singapore.

A Spirit practitioner whom I greatly admire and respect recently held a little contest on her Facebook page. She posted a picture of a hummingbird for Leo season and asked us to guess what her intent could be.

I love guessing games so I submitted an entry just for the fun and pure joy of it. Interestingly, as I was typing my answer, I sensed Spirit gently intervening in the moment to impart a gem of insight.

Spiritual contemplation, where we pause to make meaningful connections between the natural and Divine realms of existence, is a wise and wonderful Spiritual practice that is found in cultures and institutions all over the world. Today, I’m happy to share this little nugget of Spiritual wisdom with you. May this bless you as it did me.

The hummingbird is a tiny, humble little creature that many people easily overlook in favour of more majestic birds, such as owls or eagles. But there is a quietly Divine glory in the hummingbird’s brilliantly hued feathers and delicate wings. The hummingbird does not need to preen or perform in order to be noticed – this little creature simply is.

The hummingbird is also the only bird that can hover in one spot while flying, and even fly backwards if necessary – that to me speaks of complete self-control, an understanding of power that the larger birds, despite their superiority in strength, cannot master.

To me, spirituality is just that – the inherent humility of knowing our true worth in the eyes of God/Goddess, and the power that we unleash within ourselves when we apply self-discipline to develop our souls’ true potential.

“For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of self-control.”

Dear souls, dear little ones – do you sometimes feel small, insignificant, and overlooked, like the hummingbird? Do you glance enviously at the soaring falcons and the graceful swans around you, and wish you could be like them?

Wouldn’t you like to feel better about who you are? If so, dear ones, come away from that place of envy and frustration. Apply the hummingbird’s medicine of self-discipline to your soul – flee from ego and bitterness, and fly towards the light of what you can achieve.

Turn inward. Gaze into your soul – all the love, hate, joy, and sorrow; all your dreams, hopes, plans and regrets; all the secrets that you hold tenderly in your heart –

witness, however imperfectly it flickers… the love and light of the Divine in you.

Have faith that you are seen, cared for, and deeply loved. Understand that the Divine did not create you in order to forsake you. The truth is in the opposite – you are immeasurably precious in the sight of God/Goddess.

Like the hummingbird, we do not need to preen or perform in order to be noticed. We are simply called to live every day with peace of mind and joy in our hearts, doing our humble part to anchor Love and Light in a world that needs all the goodness it can get.

So go forth, dear ones. Be a blessing wherever you go, whatever you do – knowing that you carry a spark of the Divine Light within your soul.
