Weekend Spirit Message, 25-27 Nov 2016: Indulge. Connect. Live a little.

First off… Happy Turkey Day to all my friends and readers who celebrate! ūüôā

This weekend, passion for the finer things (and people) in life gets ramped up. On Friday, Venus, planetary ruler of relationships, meets sexy, secretive Pluto in Capricorn, which governs material gain. It’s a good time to treat yourself: get your booking on at that spa you’ve always meant to try out, bond with friends and loved ones over a champagne brunch, or engage in retail therapy with your besties.

On a budget? Then turn your quest for indulgence into a little game! Pluto governs that which is hidden and mysterious: grab a buddy and suss out the best cheap eats and/or bargains in town that you never even knew existed. Or simply spend some time enhancing your relationship with yourself, relaxing and recharging with a good novel, long naps and gentle exercise.

Many of my friends and clients have left Scorpio season behind, feeling emotionally wrung after all that intensity. Dear one, let this weekend be a time of respite. Life can be heavygoing; all the more we need to engage in self-care, especially when it comes to our physical wellbeing. Live a little, connect with others and yourself, and be well!

This Week’s Tarot, 7-13 Nov 2016

20161106_092828

This Tuesday, 8 November, all eyes will be on America as the nation goes to vote. Here’s wishing voters all best! Another reason for celebration is that belligerent Mars enters humanitarian, high-minded Aquarius on the same day, encouraging the global community to use all that creative, aggressive Martian energy for the highest and greatest good of all.

So let’s get to it! Here’s This Week’s Tarot. ūüôā

LEFT: QUEEN OF CUPS. This Queen represents our relationship with our emotional, intuitive side; the feminine aspect of our psyche, if you will. This year’s Scorpio season so far has been heavy-going for many, with some deeply¬†suppressed issues suddenly erupting and boiling over. This Queen gently encourages us to be kind to ourselves and acknowledge, not ignore what we feel. Nevertheless, the placement of the Queen of Cups is pretty interesting. Notice she’s looking away absently into the distance? And therein lies the risk of over-indulging in our emotions – we lose focus.

MIDDLE: TWO OF PENTACLES. The young man in this card is giving the Queen of Cups some seriously judgemental side-eye here. And with good reason! The Two of Pentacles represents inner equilibrium; his message to us is to balance the opposing priorities, values and/or perspectives in our lives. Have your emotional issues (either denial, drama, or both) been getting the better of you lately? Time to set the balance right.

RIGHT: KING OF PENTACLES. What struck me immediately about the King of Pentacles in this spread (besides the fact that this dude is a major hottie) is the strength of his gaze. He’s staring right at us, the calmness and inner strength of this royal leader apparent in his eyes. Not only that, he’s surrounded by abundance: the grapes, vines and huge Pentacle in his hand are all Tarot symbols of material stability and success. This guy is focused on his goals in life, and knows what he needs to do to get there.

This Week’s Tarot urges us to gain and/or regain our focus on what matters in life. It is healthy to acknowledge and work with our emotions. But emotional suppression and emotional theatrics are two extremes that can hinder us from achieving our goals or leading our best lives. The key is to balance our¬†emotional, intuitive and spiritual selves with the practical, material and strategic issues that make up much of our day-to-day living.

Dear one, remember you are loved. Life is out there, waiting for you to take the wheel and drive your own destiny. So get your focus on and get moving Рwe can all do our part to make humanity great again greater!

Have a great week ahead! ūüôā

This Week’s Tarot, 31 Oct – 6 Nov 2016

Here’s a pic of This Week‚Äôs Tarot with a couple of my holiday purchases: a facial mask and a bottle of virgin coconut oil, both organic. Ubud, a town in Bali, Indonesia, is well known for its arts and crafts; increasingly, it‚Äôs also becoming a hub for artisanal products and businesses promoting holistic living. Just thought to share with you where I‚Äôve been the past couple of days!

The message in This Week’s Tarot is pretty uplifting for those of you who have found 2016 a rather challenging year. Here we go!

LEFT: NINE OF RODS REVERSED. When upright, this card indicates the preparation for a final battle, the drawing of a final boundary. Reversed, the Nine of Swords indicates that the war is far from over and there is a loss of motivation to carry on. Realisation is dawning that perhaps life is not all about battles to be fought and won. Could there be a better way?

MIDDLE: FOUR OF SWORDS REVERSED. The Four of Swords warns us against the perils of over-thinking. When reversed, two things might be happening: either you’ve reached a stage where you’re chronically exhausted from this mental rut, and/or you’re starting to realise that you can end this. Thinking and fretting in circles never solved any problems. What, then, can be done to end this stalemate?

RIGHT: JUSTICE. This Week’s Tarot suggests Justice as an effective solution or tie-breaker when nothing’s moving, but something’s got to give. Traditionally, Justice in the Tarot refers to the Universal Law of Karma. It speaks of the Golden Rule: Do unto others what you would desire them to do unto you.

Besides fair treatment, I would add a modern spin to the interpretation of Justice: Know your rights, and act on them. Some readers out there might currently be in situations where others are bending (or even outright breaking) the rules in their favour: abusive bosses, scheming colleagues, dysfunctional friends and loved ones, to name some examples.

Time to get up to speed on what is right and just in your situation, then act on it. Are you getting paid for all that over-time you’re pulling, and if not, what benefits are you receiving in return? Is your honey just moody by nature, or is there an underlying emotional abuse issue where you’re the target? As I mentioned in the Weekend Spirit Message, the New Moon in Scorpio begins a new season of change and transformation, where we are encouraged to break free from old fears and restrictions and create new lifestyles that affirm our authentic selves. The proximity of this New Moon to Mercury highlights the importance of making significant changes by communicating our truths honestly, and enlisting the help of supportive people around us.

Time for an honest look at yourself, too: if you’re the misbehaving boss, co-worker or spouse, then shape up and do the right thing! Karma is not a Law you want to mess with!

Have a great week ahead! ūüôā

Weekend Spirit Message, 29-30 Oct 2016: Break free from secrets and restraints.

I’m writing this post at¬†the front foyer of a¬†cosy little holiday villa in the heart of rural Ubud, a town in Bali, Indonesia. We had a long and wonderful day today, re-connecting with nature and visiting some spiritual sites. It’s almost 10 pm now. The crickets are singing, the owls swoop past silently on their nightly hunts, the breeze is refreshing and slightly chilly as it crosses over the rice paddy fields right outside my door.

The night sky is filled with stars but I can’t actually see the moon right now, for a very simple reason: it’s a New Moon this Sunday 30 October. This New Moon in Scorpio brings with it incredible transformative power, because Scorpio is the sign that tends to be associated with secrecy, and as¬†many of us know, it’s the things we keep secret – the things no one talks about – that can hold great (and sometimes terrible) power over us.

It’s the things we keep secret – the things no one talks about – that can hold great (and sometimes terrible) power over us.

This weekend, ask yourself what holds you back, shuts you up, ties you down, and restrains you from reaching your full potential. New Moons bring with them the energy of new beginnings. Perhaps it’s time to identify your glass ceilings, hidden traps, and invisible shackles – and release yourself from them. Break free from habits, relationships, and situations that no longer serve your highest good, but that you never dared to confront before.

This New Moon is closely situated to Mercury, the planet of communication. Folks, the message is clear: break free from your secret bondages with the assistance of others. Don’t be a stranger! Be courageous: share the unspoken issues that trouble you with people you can trust, or find a support network to assist you as you transform, liberating yourself from the bondage of your secret or suppressed concerns to attain the best life you are meant to lead.

Let this Sunday begin a season of change, rebirth, and new growth.¬†The Full Moon in Scorpio falls on 10 May 2017, concluding this season of transformation. It may not be the easiest time, but it is for the best. You’ve got this.

Have a great weekend ahead! <3

This Week’s Tarot, 24-30 Oct 2016

Note: No Tarot card pic for this post because [spoilers ahead] The World popped up. This card depicts nudity and, in accordance with its ad policy, Facebook doesn’t¬†allow me to publish it. Apologies and thanks for understanding! <3

We’ve just¬†dived into Scorpio season, and already I’m hearing from clients and friends that they’re feeling emotionally tired or heavy. No surprise there, folks – the Moon is waning, after all – and good things are on their way because this Sunday 30 October is the New Moon in Scorpio! Right now what many people feel is the energy of burnout, weariness, and the ending of significant life cycles. But come this Sunday, the New Moon in Scorpio gives us the opportunity to arise from the ashes and start anew.

Scorpio is a fixed Water sign: Scorpio energies indicate that a tsunami¬†of emotions might¬†arise this week as we tackle difficult issues that we’ve managed to hide or suppress so far. But so long as we persevere and stay fixed on our course, in love, light and honesty, the New Moon at the end of this week presents us with opportunities to break free of the old patterns that hide our truth and hold us back, and create new ones that give us life.

Hang in there, folks, and here’s This Week’s Tarot! ūüôā

LEFT: TEN OF WANDS. This card indicates the end of a cycle, stage, or project in your life. You’ve accomplished much. You’re also possibly exhausted, burnt out, and dealing with far more responsibilities than you can handle. Time to consider a break, (re-)establish boundaries, and/or (re-)allocate duties and responsibilities in a fairer, saner way for everyone? And if your answer to that is “I can’t” or “I won’t”, perhaps it’s time to ask yourself what might be up with the situation, the people around you, or even yourself, for you to reach this point.

MIDDLE: KING OF CUPS. The Tarot Kings indicates external mastery of their Suit; Cups in the Tarot represent emotions and the element of water (see the link to Scorpio here?). The message this King brings us is to stay calm and focus on controlling our emotions. By doing so, we get to see the big picture and going with the flow becomes less of a struggle.

Now let’s get this clear: true emotional control can only come about when we are first open and honest with our emotions, when we acknowledge them and find the right place for them in our lives. Suppressing them, over-indulging in them or killing them off with “logical reasoning” gets us¬†nowhere. Good Kings don’t crush or hide from their subjects – they reign over them!

RIGHT: THE WORLD. This card refers to completion, closure, the Universally-ordained ending of a major cycle, stage, or project in your life. In a sense, it’s similar to the Ten of Wands but without the element of burnout – this card wants you to focus on the fact that whatever ended, or is about to end, is OVER. LET IT GO. Move forward to exciting new things, dear one. Stop clinging on to what you weren’t happy with over¬†whatever just ended. Celebrate what you did achieve – and when The World appears, you’ve achieved A BIG DEAL. Well done! – and move on.

BONUS: THE WHEEL OF FORTUNE. When The Wheel of Fortune appears, we are reminded that the Universe moves in cycles. 2016 has been a challenging year for many, and if you’ve been feeling particularly hard done by these few months, this card reassures you that things are on the upswing for you. The trick is to maintain hope, confidence and optimism even when your emotions are screaming at you to wallow in self-pity and resentment.

As I mentioned earlier, Scorpio is a fixed Water sign. The flip side of fixed Water is a state where the Water element (aka our emotional state) stagnates and; left unchecked, the dark side of Scorpio energies can lead us into envy, resentment and bitterness. All the more we need to take a cue from the King of Cups and rule our feelings, not the other way around. This bears repeating:

A tsunami of emotions might arise this week as we tackle difficult issues that we’ve managed to hide or suppress so far. But so long as we persevere and stay fixed on our course, in love, light and honesty, the New Moon at the end of this week presents us with opportunities to break free of the old patterns that hide our truth and hold us back, and create new ones that give us life.

Hang in there, and have a wonderful week ahead!

Weekend Spirit Message, 21-23 Oct 2016: Even in darkness, starlight.

This Saturday, we make the official switch from Libra to Scorpio season. Universal¬†energies shift their focus from harmony, balance and peace-keeping to a more introspective mood that lasts till 21 November. The Celestial Scorpion’s bullshit radar is on high alert, but there’s no need to jump into fight¬†mode – put your stings and tails away and save them for real emergencies, people!

What’s likely to happen (starting from this weekend) is that as you enter a season of soul-searching, you might learn¬†things about yourself and/or the people and situations around you that make you uncomfortable.

The truth is that no one is all Light or all dark. We are all a mix of white and black and grey and all the colours of the rainbow. So don’t condemn yourself or others when you find out something you didn’t want to know. Face your darkness bravely – it has always been there, and knowing that it’s there doesn’t change a thing – and don’t be afraid.

What matters is what you do with the darkness you find, within and/or around you.

What choices will you make? Are you finally going to get treatment for your depression or eating disorder? Do you honestly think your married lover is going to leave his wife and kids for you, if he hasn’t done so after three years? Will you stop ignoring that terrible pain in your body and see a doctor, despite your terror at what you might hear?

What do you fear? That is your darkness, and the choices you make will either lead you step-by-step into a new dawn of hope, or plunge you further back into black.

It’s Scorpio season. Universal energies will leave you unsatisfied with superficiality and lies. You’re ready – more ready than you know – to work through the darkness, to seek the truth, to take life by the hand and walk (maybe run or fly!)¬†towards¬†a brighter future.

Because even in the darkest night, the Universe is kind, and She is watching. Spirit is cheering you on and reaching out to you like stars in the night sky. You are never truly, fully alone or forsaken. There is always love, light, and a way.

If the Sun has set and there is no sunlight to guide you, you have the Moon. If the Moon is missing, even in darkness, you have starlight. And if you’re in a place where even the stars aren’t shining, honey, COME OUT OF THAT GRAVE¬†YOU’VE DUG YOURSELF INTO.

Remember: Even in darkness, you have starlight. Be brave, and be blessed.
Have a wonderful weekend!

This Week’s Tarot, 17-23 Oct 2016

This week, Universal energies are seriously heating up as Libra season finally segues into Scorpio season on Saturday, 22 October. Libra’s harmonious energies¬†don’t¬†have to end – love and peace are always a choice we can make! – but Scorpio, being a fixed Water sign, is all about doing the inner work, delving deep into our souls to face our deepest hopes and fears. This sign is intense, mysterious, naturally drawn to mysticism and the esoteric arts.

This Week’s Tarot is all about doing the inner work of healing ourselves, first by being true to who we are and what we stand for. In order to do that, we must be honest about what faces we present to¬†the world, and who we really are when no one’s looking. Here we go! ūüôā

RIGHT: KING OF SWORDS. This is the first face many of us like to show the world: the cool person, the one who’s got his/her act together, the one who’s smart and capable… and always keeps his Sword up in defence against attacks to his ego. Notice this King’s Sword is held close to his face: this aspect¬†of ourselves is all about saving face and, in the process, hiding a part of who we are from the rest of the world – even those who genuinely love and care for us.

Dear one, it is wise to keep parts of yourself private, but are you pushing away family, friends and loved ones in the process? Internally, you could be having a meltdown, but you’d rather stab yourself¬†and die before you ever admit to vulnerability. Are you sure that’s such a good idea?

MIDDLE: QUEEN OF PENTACLES. This card represents our inner self, and the Queen of Pentacles is all about¬†nurturing oneself and others. Like the REM song goes, “Everybody hurts, and sometimes, everybody cries”. The Queen of Pentacles in the inner self position suggests that we need to take care of this aspect of our being. More self-love and self-care is needed; stop feeling guilty and just take time off for a spa day!

Alternatively,¬†it would enrich your soul to find a cause to care for as well. Volunteering to help the elderly, the handicapped, or abandoned pets would be a nice change from reflecting on your hectic life¬†and wondering why it still feels so… empty.

RIGHT: KNIGHT OF RODS. Here’s the other face we show to the world. Notice that the facades we present to the world tend to be more masculine? It’s only natural: we feel the need to act tough to defend our inner Queen of Pentacles from being hurt by a world that can be unpredictable and even harsh. This Week’s Tarot calls for a balance between the masculine and feminine sides of ourselves, and while the Knight of Rods still tends to be more masculine than feminine, his message is for us to take hold of our passions and engage in exuberant, enthusiastic action to meet our goals.

In the Tarot Court, The Knights act in service of¬†the Kings and Queens. Here, the King of Swords is looking away – he really doesn’t care for anything else except saving face – but the Queen of Pentacles is looking towards the Knight of Rods as if to say Go forth, and do my will.

Folks, it’s clear what This Week’s Tarot encourages us to do: commit to honesty, authenticity and healing our inner selves, stop obsessing over saving face, and take action to follow our hearts and live our best lives. Let’s get the fire back in our souls, everyone.

Also, please note: as we move from Libra into Scorpio season, we’re headed into the Libra-Scorpio cusp (a cusp¬†is an in-between period between signs,¬†roughly¬†the last five days of one sign’s season and the first five days of the next). The free, happy-go-lucky Libra energies are evolving, becoming more intense and emotionally driven as we move into Scorpio. This, as well as aggressive Mars and furtive Pluto meeting in power-hungry Capricorn on Wednesday 19 October, indicates that energies are ripe for a power showdown. Egos may bloat,¬†tempers may fly, everyone fights¬†to win, and quoting a fabulous friend of mine, “Everyone’s just full of macho sh*t these days”.

How to deal? Easy, folks: ride the Libra-Scorpio cusp wave and CHILL. Focus on creating an enhanced version of your wonderful self, and don’t get sucked into senseless rivalries. You can do this!

And here’s a song that kinda suits the Libra-Scorpio mood this week. REM sings, “Everybody hurts (awww, sad¬†Scorpio); take comfort in your friends (yeah Libra!). No, you’re not alone… Hold on.”

Have a great week ahead! ūüôā
