This week gets heavygoing in the heavens! On Thursday 6 April, celestial disciplinarian Saturn goes into retrograde, marching backwards through expansive, freedom-loving Sagittarius until 25 August. When Saturn appears, its effect is similar to that of a stern math teacher calling for a pop quiz to ensure that his students have been paying attention in class. When in retrograde, imagine that stern headmaster conducting the quiz in a slightly crustier mood because he’s suffering a major migraine – he’s more likely to pick on some kids, if you know what I mean. This Week’s Tarot, 28 Nov – 4 Dec 2016

This week, the Sagittarius New Moon on Tuesday, 29 November infuses us with fresh energies for candid communication and opportunities for enhanced collaboration. Sagittarius is one zodiac sign that’s always up for new ideas and grand schemes, so fire away – just take note of Neptune’s close square at this time. Neptune rules imagination and creativity, but can lead us into distraction: remember to stay grounded and focused, and it’s all good.

Here’s This Week’s Tarot to lead us to bigger and better things. Here we go! 🙂

LEFT: THE EMPRESS REVERSED. When The Empress appears upside-down, it’s time to re-evaluate what you cherish in life, and how you show it. Could you be clinging on to something that no longer serves your highest good? Or have you been neglecting a situation that really deserves more TLC – like your health or a relationship, for instance? The Empress is the mother figure of the Tarot, and her topsy-turvy presence indicates either a lack of care or a lack of respect for boundaries.

MIDDLE: TEN OF SWORDS. Ooof. When this uncomfortable-looking card appears, a crisis is imminent; if you’re currently facing (or about to face) a difficult situation, look back to the reversed Empress for some clues as to how you got here, and how you can move forward. One nice thing I’ll say about this card, though: it’s not likely things can get much worse. Still, don’t let Neptune delude you into throwing an emo pity-party. Put the black eyeliner away; use the New Moon energies to get your act together and arise once more. You can do this.

RIGHT: KING OF SWORDS. This Week’s Tarot advises us to be like the King of Swords in dealing with our challenges – calmly, with rational thinking and clear, structured dialogue. In the Tarot, the suit of Swords represents logic, communication, and the power of mind over matter. This is a time to reach out and speak up for yourself, with people you can trust. Seek guidance where it is needed – someone in your life who’s known for his/her calm and rational instincts may prove to be of help. Above all, stay focused: keep your wits about you, think before you speak, and don’t be swayed by emotional extremes.

You’re going to be just fine. Hang in there. Have a wonderful week ahead!

This Week’s Tarot, 21-27 Nov 2016

This is Scorpio-Sagittarius cusp week: Scorpio passes the baton to Sagittarius on Monday, 21 November. As a mutable Fire sign, Sagittarius is free-spirited, jovial and outspoken. Sagittarius energies will lift our spirits and promote a more philosophical approach to life. Careful with the philosophising, though: on Thursday, 24 November, light-hearted and expansive Jupiter (which rules Sagittarius) squares dark, intense Pluto (which rules Scorpio, incidentally). So be careful of what you say, and how you say it, because misunderstandings are likely to arise – cusps can be tricky like that, but no worries, it’s just the energies shifting. Stay calm, everyone: at work, keep your head down and your eye on the ball; in personal relationships and situations, stay upbeat and positive (in other words, do a Sagittarius!).

That said, check out This Week’s Tarot! 🙂

LEFT: SEVEN OF SWORDS. Some call this The Thief’s card; others call it The Lone Wolf. When this card appears, what you see is not what you get, and trust issues may come into play. Have people, incidents and events in recent times shaken your faith in humanity and left you feeling robbed of what you deserve? Or perhaps you’re involved in something which, if it ever saw the light of day, would damage what you hold dear and leave you vulnerable. You might be feeling helpless and lonely in a difficult situation, at work or elsewhere.

Dear one, Spirit and the Universe are for you – not against you. You are not alone. In that case, what can be done to alleviate the burden of the Seven Swords?

MIDDLE: SEVEN OF RODS. This Week’s Tarot suggests the Seven of Rods to balance out the energies of the Seven Swords. This is the card of self-assertion, and the key to self-assertion is being honest with yourself (rather than wilfully deceiving self and others, as the Seven of Swords sometimes suggests). Knowing who you are and what you stand for will be crucial when you make the choice to assert your political opinion, your racial/cultural/gender identity, your fashion choices… whatever!

Now bear in mind what I mentioned earlier about Jupiter squaring Pluto on Thursday, and remember: assertion is not aggression. Let your light shine with sunny Sagittarius flair. You don’t need to start fights about it, and you don’t have to take any nonsense from others who push your boundaries. And don’t worry about not pleasing other people – just do you. In time, the right people will be drawn to your light, and the right things will fall into place at the right time. The Universe is kind. Which brings us to…

RIGHT: THE STAR. This is a lovely card to round out This Week’s Tarot. When The Star appears, the light is appearing at the end of the tunnel. Hope springs eternal, dear one; even if you’re feeling like things right now are not going well for yourself (or the world around you), there is cause for optimism. The Star gives us the encouragement we need to stay focused and true to ourselves. Things will get better; it won’t be easy, and action must be taken for our individual and collective destinies to be shaped the way we want them to be, but they will get better. Hang in there, and do what’s right.

Have a great week ahead! 🙂
