LEFT: TEMPERANCE. This is a card of healing through balance and moderation. Whenever this card appears, we are reminded that our patience and willingness to accept divergent perspectives can create miracles. It’s a great anchor card to start a reading with, and encourages us to find our peace and centre even in the midst of busyness and complicated situations. Some of you might benefit from taking this card literally and spending some time out in nature, particularly near water!
I love how Temperance teaches us to take a step back and take a look at the bigger picture. After all, a clear, higher perspective is absolutely crucial when we’re navigating our course through a complicated situation. It’s especially vital when we look at our next card.
MIDDLE: THE TOWER. The Tower is one of the most feared cards in the Tarot, and undeservedly so. This card indicates that an opportunity for growth and learning could come upon us, often in the form of a crisis. What we assume to be real could turn out to be an illusion; things are not what they seem. This unexpected encounter could turn out to be highly beneficial, though: we get the precious opportunity to release old mindsets, habits, dynamics, people, and situations that no longer serve our highest good.
The important thing is to discern what does or does not serve us, and to act accordingly. Be mindful of illusions. In all things, seek truth, light, and compassion – and you’ll find that The Tower was really rooting for you to win, all this while.
RIGHT: FOUR OF CUPS. Personally, I’d be more wary of the Four of Cups than of The Tower! This is the card of boredom, stagnation, and self-pity. Discontentment, ennui, and frustration are present when this card appears, but no clear solution presents itself yet.
Whenever this card shows up, consider your options carefully. Remember to take nothing for granted, and not to overlook seemingly trivial details that could turn out to be key elements in the solution you seek. As advice, this card urges you to think twice before you act in ways that are negative, ungrateful, or self-entitled; these actions could come back in the future to bite you in the heel. Act mindfully; express and practice gratitude regularly; discipline your emotions, and consider the wellbeing of others as well as yourself.
