This week kicks off with the full lunar eclipse on 22 Jan at 10:36 am Singapore time. Some useful details: this eclipse occurs in the first degree of the Fixed Fire sign of Leo. It lies opposite Mercury, planet of communication, tech and travel; it also forms a square with Uranus, planet of disruption and innovation. This eclipse offers us opportunities to allow the Lion or Lioness in us to arise – to be bold and courageous even in the face of unexpected developments. LEFT: TEN OF CUPS REVERSED. Upright, this is the Happy Ever After of the Tarot; upside-down, the potential for emotional fulfilment is still there, but you’ll have to work harder for it. Beware of misunderstandings and conflicts amongst loved ones, the people you consider part of your soul tribe or spirit family.
Remember: sometimes, it’s better to be kind than to be right.
If you’re single, this is not a great time to rush into a relationship with that promising new person. Get to know them as a friend and take things slowly. If they’re meant for you, they’ll stick around… or come back when conditions are appropriate.
MIDDLE: QUEEN OF CUPS REVERSED. At the heart of this week’s reading is a person who is emotionally and psychologically unstable, a person who has lost touch with their inner equilibrium. This person feels helpless and vulnerable against this cruel world, and resorts to manipulative tactics to maintain the balance of power in their favour. This person may also be spiritual/intuitive, or at least claim to be spiritual/intuitive – but they’re likely misguided.
If not an actual person, this card can also refer to an energy, dynamic, or situation where emotional or psychological manipulation is apparent, and spiritual guidance is either lacking or plain wrong. When the reversed Queen of Cups turns up, appearances are deceptive. Stick to the facts, and don’t get carried away by emotional arguments.
RIGHT: NINE OF CUPS REVERSED. The Nine of Cups is also known as the Lord of Contentment, or the Wish Come True card. When reversed, unexpected developments have disrupted your hopes and dreams. The temptation is to become morose, disappointed, and fixated on how things should have turned out; at its extreme, this card can indicate anxiety, depression, obsessive tendencies, and bitterness at perceived failure/abandonment.
The challenge we must overcome, in the face of disruption and unexpected developments, is to keep our spirits high and our hearts pure. Whatever you’re dealing with, it’s not over – it’s never truly over. Endings are precursors to new beginnings. Setbacks are the breeding grounds for eventual success.
