The big event this week: Uranus retrograde begins on 15 August 2020 and ends on 14 January 2021. Throughout the entire retrograde, the planetary ruler of sudden and unexpected change will be in Taurus, the zodiac sign that tends to be associated with wealth.

The last time Uranus was in Taurus was during the Great Depression, when most of the developed world (and the USA in particular) was facing a massive economic meltdown. Well, we’re back here in the same spot and it’s happening again, but that’s nothing we can’t handle.

Uranus retrograde in Taurus is a great time to review and possibly restructure our plans regarding personal finances and the accumulation of wealth. Taurus is a slow and steady sign, one that believes in hard work and determination. The shadow side of Taurus, however, is laziness, greed, stubbornness, apathy, and difficulties with mastering the concept of working smart.

As an outer planet, Uranus applies to all of us in a broadly sweeping manner. So it doesn’t matter what zodiac sign you are – be mindful that the shadow qualities mentioned earlier could rear their ugly heads in some aspect of your life, and Uranus retrograde could expose these qualities in surprising ways.

The key is to perceive these experiences as opportunities to learn, change, and growth. Master the lessons of Uranus retrograde, and your financial situation could be in a much better place by Jan 2021.

Let’s get to the reading!

LEFT: SIX OF PENTACLES REVERSED. Many of you are possibly hearing of bad news at work, rumours of retrenchment and/or pay cuts, etc. You could be concerned about the future of your career and financial situation – the Six of Pentacles is associated with charity, and some of you are frightened to the point that you think you’re going to become one of the beggars depicted in this card.

Okay. Take a deep breath, hold it in for a short while, then exhale slowly.

There is no value in worrying over what you cannot control. With Uranus retrograde on the horizon, it’s time to start thinking of creative ways to earn income. Some of you could benefit from taking up a side-hustle; for others, the way out of this tight spot could start with learning a new skill. Also, there’s absolutely nothing wrong with checking out potential career opportunities on various job sites.

It’s never over until you give up. Never give up.

MIDDLE: NINE OF SWORDS. It’s common that your quality of sleep could suffer when you’re under stress, but this is not an inescapable outcome, so please be mindful and break away from the fatalistic assumption that your sleep (and quality of life) is bound to decline.

It would be too, too ironic if your poor quality of sleep impacted your work performance and led to the very thing you feared the most – the very catastrophe that kept you awake. Yes? Let’s not perpetuate self-fulfilling prophecies here.

Take the initiative and work on getting a sleep routine settled. Research has shown that setting up and maintaining a peaceful routine for about 30-60 minutes before bedtime (whilst avoiding electronic devices and sources of blue light) can wire your brain to shut down naturally. So do try this for your own health and well-being.

And don’t even think of late-night Netflix/ YouTube/ social media binges when you already know you can’t sleep well. Self-discipline is key to health and wellness!

RIGHT: TEN OF SWORDS. This card is self-explanatory, and is the natural follow-up to the Nine of Swords if you don’t address those issues with anxiety, over-thinking, and poor rest! The Nine and Ten of Swords appear together in this week’s spread as a gentle warning for some of you who may be engaging in self-sabotaging behaviour, based on your own fears.

There is nothing wrong with feeling fearful sometimes. In our life journeys, fear can be an important emotional signpost that tells us we need to get out of an uncomfortable situation. However, fear is only valuable as something we recognise; after that, we are meant to move on and search for effective solutions to what triggers our fear.

You’re not supposed to uproot the signpost of fear and drag it with you along your journey, hoping that it will give you directions! That thing will weigh you down and exhaust you.

Fear can be a signpost, but never your map. Understand what is happening in your situation, and take strong, consistent action to rectify what is causing the stress.

Treat idle talk as a passing breeze;
You will be abundantly provided for.
Forget past sorrows, and let bygones be bygones!
Surely you agree with me on this.
(Trans. Tan Kelly)

When this lot is drawn, there could be a reversed Six of Pentacles situation going on, where someone is fearful of perceived lack or poverty – as implied in the second line of the poem, which reassures one of generous provision. The advice to “forget past sorrows” resonates with the Tarot reading, which exhorts us to shift our mindsets consciously and move away from failure-centric mindsets.

The traditional meaning and interpretation of this lot encourages us to stay on track with our plans, and to work ceaselessly for the highest and greatest good. Benefactors, mentors, and helpful people will play a role in the path to success.

The first step to that success you desire is to let go of what does not serve you: the idle talk, the fear, the self-defeating habits. You can do it. You will.

Have a great week ahead!
