We can’t keep birds from flying over our heads, but building nests in our hair…?

Sherlyn was crying so hard, her body was shaking. A young and beautiful expatriate, she had arrived in Singapore ten years ago and fallen in love with a colleague, Marcus.

Unfortunately, Marcus was married. Sherlyn was faced with a decision to make: either leave Marcus, which possibly entailed leaving her company and starting all over again elsewhere, or staying with Marcus in the shadows – the other woman.

Sherlyn chose the latter. Her reward: glimmers of happiness in a dark, tumultuous decade of secrets, tears, and loneliness. Being beaten and humiliated in public by the wife one nightmarish Sunday, some years ago. Frequent and painful break-ups, followed by excruciating reconciliations. Malicious office gossip and subsequent career setbacks.

“Things just fell into place. He was always there when I needed him, but never to the extent that I wanted him in my life. And now, I have nothing to show for it. Ten years of my life. Gone. Just like that.”

They’d just had another quarrel over the same old topic: whether Marcus was going to divorce his wife and marry Sherlyn.

“He says he doesn’t love her, and she treats him badly. Why won’t he leave? What can I do to make him divorce her?”

– You can’t make a man leave his wife if he doesn’t want to, Sherlyn.

“Then why is he still with me? Can’t he see how much he is hurting me – hurting us – by not ending his marriage?”

– Because it’s human nature not to rock the boat if we’re getting what we want. He has a respectable marriage for public display, and a secret lover to run to when his wife annoys him. For some men, that’s pretty much the best of both worlds. And even if he realises that his decisions are causing hurt, so long as his interests are not directly affected, he’s probably not going to budge.

As I replied, a card fell out the Tarot deck I’d been shuffling absently. I turned it over: Four of Pentacles. Depicting a well-dressed man holding tightly onto four large coins, the Four of Pentacles is traditionally known as the Miser’s Card, or as I call him in a love reading, The Stage Five Clinger.

– Sherlyn, you’ve been clinging on for ten years to a man who has shown no interest in changing his life for you. What makes you continue to hold on so tenaciously?

“Well, as you mentioned earlier, I’m all alone in Singapore. I suppose it’s my loneliness that pulls me back into this mess. It’s been ten years but I haven’t made many friends, partly because I wasted so much time and energy on my relationship with Marcus. Also, I feel that he understands me… during the good times at least. He was the first friend I made when I moved here. Things just fell into place. Now I wish they never did.”

Sherlyn sipped her chamomile tea. Her hands were shaking. I pitied her from the bottom of my heart, but I could only light the way ahead for her in this dark and difficult journey. Ultimately, Sherlyn’s decisions were hers to make.

She shut her eyes tightly and exhaled with a shudder.

“My parents are getting old. Perhaps it’s time to return to my home country and take care of them.”

– Perhaps.

The consultation was over. Sherlyn got up and adjusted her dress, then looked at me.

“You know, Kelly, I’ve always believed in going with the flow, following my heart, all those feel-good, self-empowerment mantras. After what you’ve told me, I’m beginning to realise that I can go with the flow and follow my heart and all that, but I still need to use my brain and moral compass. Or else I cause myself nothing but pain.”

– That’s true, Sherlyn. The Universe is kind, Spirit loves you, and we co-build our destinies. But we’re also bound by Spiritual Laws such as Karma, and in whatever we do it’s best to follow the Golden Rule: do unto others what you want done to you, and refrain from doing to others what you don’t want done to you. Even if you’d married Marcus, who’s to say he won’t get another mistress?

Sherlyn shook her head firmly. “I wouldn’t accept that at all… I’d go crazy. I’m almost there already!”

“I need some insight. She left me just like that. And now she’s with another man. Should I still try to reconnect with her?”

Philip had been sent to Denmark some months ago on a three-year overseas work assignment. Due to various commitments, his wife couldn’t go with him. Stressed and lonely in Copenhagen, Philip had an affair.

“I told myself this was just a fling, nothing serious. Things just fell into place. I had no idea she would leave first, or that it would hurt me so badly.

“I have no intention of leaving my wife or telling her anything about this. I love my wife; I miss her so much. And I know deep down there’s no point running after my lover. I just need closure.”

Philip had played with fire and gotten badly burnt. He’d learnt the hard way that relationships are seldom what they seem, and that the human heart is impossible to comprehend. One glimmer of hope in this otherwise bleak situation was that Philip was determined not to let it happen again.

A Spirit Guide came through for Philip with a message of love, and advice to let go of the past. The root cause of Philip’s choices – and his subsequent suffering – was a heart that could not stand solitude; a profound loneliness that pierced to the depths of his soul.

Philip texted me later to tell me that he felt lighter after the reading, and that he was going to take action to deal with the loneliness within him that made him vulnerable to temptation and hurt. I said a prayer for him; I know that Spirit is watching over him and he’s going to be okay.

It’s sad, but true: men don’t receive the same amount of emotional support and validation that women do. Men are assumed to be stronger, taught to “toughen up”, encouraged to detach from their emotions. Which is why when things fall into place and a happily married man like Philip wakes up one day with another woman in his bed, it’s hard to walk away.

So many marriages (and especially men) would be healed, so deeply and powerfully, if we choose to acknowledge our vulnerabilities; working on them with the loving assistance of Spirit and of our fellow human beings. That would be wonderful. 🙂

The saying goes, “You can’t keep birds from flying over your head, but you can keep them from building a nest in your hair.”

Life is about choices. Every choice we make either aligns us closer with the Light, or pulls us down a little deeper into the dark.

But choices aren’t always easy to make. As human beings, we want stability. We enjoy the comfort zone. Which is why, when temptation first flies past, we don’t budge.

Temptation draws near again, wings outstretched, sensing prey. We smile, lounge in our armchairs and wave hi.

Temptation perches on our head, twigs in its beak, ready to build a nest. Things are falling into place, but they are the wrong things. Do we sit there and allow ourselves to be destroyed, or do we get up and shake it off?

I’m only a Spiritual messenger, healer and Lightworker. I’m not God, and I certainly don’t have the right to tell you what to do. I can only light the way ahead for you – you alone have the power to stop the birds from building nests in your hair, and to make the right choices when the wrong things fall into place.

Remember: even in the midst of hurt, confusion and darkness, you are still loved by Spirit. The Universe is always extending Her hand to help if you’re willing to take it. You’re not alone, and you’re not forsaken.

Perhaps the birds have been flying over your head a little too often recently. Possibly you’ve allowed one to hop on your shoulder. Maybe right now there are a couple on your head and you just overheard them discussing interior designs and the price of twigs.

Whatever your situation, do what you must do. Be brave, and be blessed.

The stories on this website (including the above recounts) are based on Kelly’s personal and professional experiences as a lightworker. Some details have been changed to protect the identities of the individuals involved.

Beauty is an inside job. Here’s how Beth finds it within herself.

Beth was hot. Model-actress hot.

The height, the curves, the hair, the cheekbones. Her legs ran on for miles. Gosh. Seated next to her, I almost felt inadequate. 😉

I wasn’t prepared for Beth’s questions, though.
(Protip: psychics aren’t all-knowing. Imperfection is how the universe keeps us humble. Sometimes you have to TELL US THINGS.)

“Why can’t I find a life partner? When is he coming? What must I do?”

Beauty can be a curse. Trapped behind her gorgeousness was a lonely soul: tired of being an object of desire, but not love.

I slowly shuffled the Tarot deck.  As a clairvoyant, one of my gifts is the ability to ‘see’ Spirit and pick up on visual cues that escape the physical eye. This time, a vision of chopsticks shimmered before my inner eye, then faded. Hmmm.

A card popped halfway out the deck, and rested on my left hand.
The High Priestess.

“What does that mean?”
A highly intuitive, intelligent woman. Usually a loner. Do you go out much?
“With my girlfriends. I try to, when I’m not at work.”

Chopsticks again. I shuffled, and passed the deck to her.
– Here you go, dear; choose four cards.

And up she popped once more. This time, the High Priestess seemed to be smiling.

Chopsticks. The High Priestess. Her flowing blue robes.
Then, voices. (I’m also clairaudient; I can ‘hear’ Spirit.)
Shrill, whiny, malicious; a tween girl chorus. “Chopsticks, chopsticks, chopsticks, chop-”

Then it all clicked.

– Beth, are you conscious about your appearance?
“… Well.”
– They called you Chopsticks at school. Because you’re tall, slim, and fair. They were envious.
Her eyes widened. “Yes, actually. But it doesn’t bother me now.”
– Then why do you wear dull colours? Clothes that hide your figure? You’re the quiet one amongst your friends as well. Almost as if you’re going out of your way to blend into the background. Are you?

She was stunned into silence.
In a flash, I realised the problem wasn’t only that men wanted her for the wrong reasons. Beth, with her striking looks and sombre attire, was deterring them from coming too close. She was perfect and unapproachable: the High Priestess herself. Such women are often single, and that’s fine, but Beth didn’t want to be single.

Something had to give.

I’m no airy-fairy New Ager. Spiritual counsel is largely unhelpful without practical solutions. So we spent the next five minutes, the psychic and her High Priestess – I mean client – talking girl stuff. Yep.

Beth, beauty is an inside job. It starts from within; it is primarily a matter of self-worth. How good you look depends a lot on how good-looking you think you can be. You’re hot! Believe it! Invest in the right make-up and clothing and for god’s sake, flaunt that figure! Smile more… what do you mean, you have an ugly smile? Confidence: get some! And trust me, the men will come running… once you change how you look and, more importantly, how you look at yourself.

Beth left the consultation, determined to take control of her self-esteem and love life. Over the following days and weeks, the selfies she sent me from various shoe stores and changing rooms proved her will to change.

I noticed this: in the first couple of selfies Beth seemed slightly uncertain and was staring at the floor, but as her journey progressed, she began to look up and admire herself.

In her latest selfie, Beth was in a slick little black dress. Very Audrey Hepburn. Posing confidently, with hand on hip.

And smiling.

The stories on this website (including the above recount) are based on Kelly’s personal and professional experiences as a lightworker. Some details have been changed to protect the identities of the individuals involved.

She asked many questions, but only one answer mattered. Find out more, here.

It was the Public Garden Christmas Market, 2014. Hilary popped by my booth, a fresh-faced young lady of eighteen with a wide smile on her face.

“Kelly?”
– That’s me! How can I help you?

Hilary’s face lit up; she squealed in happiness. “OH MY GOD IT’S REALLY YOU! I’ve been following your Facebook page and website for a while, and I thought I’d try out one of those 15-minute readings you were giving at the Christmas Market.”

So we did, and Hilary was very happy with the love, clarity and assurance that Spirit poured abundantly into her soul. So happy, in fact, that she returned the next weekend with her cousin.

“I told my cousin Bella that I was blown away by everything you said and she had to have a reading too! And after that can I have another reading? I just wanna clarify some things.” Hilary was practically skipping around with joy as she introduced me to Bella, a feisty 24-year-old who had some questions about her budding career as a researcher.

– Hmmm. Okay.
Hilary’s second reading was partly a rehash of the first one. It turned out that she “just wanted to be sure” that the messages from Spirit were still valid for her. I reassured her that Spirit doesn’t change track or give up on people that easily; so long as she was true to herself and gave of her best in living and loving her life, the Universe would always be watching out for her.

Guess what? The following weekend, Hilary was back. Looking slightly nervous and with a list of… more questions. Hmmm.

“I’m applying for university courses next year and I just want to be sure I’m making the right choices. Can we ask the Tarot for an overview of each of these courses?” she asked as she fumbled with the crumpled sheet of paper. I glanced at the list – thirteen. Oh heck no.

– Hilary, sorry but there will be no reading for you. I’m not answering these questions. Spirit will not be offering you a pre-freshman orientation course. No can do.

Hilary looked hurt and confused. “Why? Does the Tarot not have the answers?”

– Babe, the Tarot is a Spirit tool that offers answers and guidance to those who seek with the right intentions. However, you’re asking these questions from a place of fear, and lack of confidence in yourself. That’s why the questions never end: you don’t trust yourself to know what you want in life. The key to living your best life is to start loving, knowing and trusting yourself first. It’s your life to lead, and Spirit is cheering you on every step of the way, but you have to understand that YOU co-create your destiny with the Universe. Got it?

Hilary nodded reluctantly. I smiled. We hugged, then she turned and left.

For the year-and-a-half after that, I would occasionally get a text from Hilary keeping me updated about her life (I keep in touch with most of my clients, it’s always nice to know how they’re doing). She shared with me her triumphs and disappointments. She also asked a lot of questions (some of which I would help out with, unless Spirit told me it was a lesson Hilary had to learn herself).

Over time, I was happy to observe how Hilary gradually gained a stronger sense of who she was and what she stood for. This lovely young lady’s self-confidence improved as she realised that the Laws of the Universe were sound and consistent, and that the Universe Herself was very, very kind indeed.

Hilary learnt that setting her intentions on the highest and greatest good got her where she wanted to be. She learnt that whatever she focused her energies on would somehow be attracted to her, and discovered the power of making conscious, positive choices in her actions, speech and thoughts.

Best of all, Hilary learnt that she was a spark of the Divine flame. That she deserved to be loved, understood and trusted – starting with herself. And by joyfully taking on her responsibility as co-creator of her life, instead of relinquishing her freedom of choice to a psychic and a deck of Tarot cards, Hilary was truly beginning to grasp the meaning of being loved by Spirit.

(I love my calling. Did I ever mention that?) 🙂

HEADS UP, EVERYONE IN SINGAPORE!

KELLY IS BACK AT THE PUBLIC GARDEN CONSUMER TRADE SHOW!

If you’ve always wondered what it’s like to have a consultation with Kelly, come on down and try a 15-minute Angel/Tarot card reading! See you there! 🙂

Public Garden Consumer Trade Show 24-25 Sep Instagram Graphic

To the girl who says everything’s okay.

Dear you,

I met you the first time about a year ago. You came to me, distraught after the deaths of your best friend and your cousin within two weeks of each other. Their passing had shaken you to the core; Death woke you up and made you realise you didn’t want to be where you were in life. You were planning to make a major career change, and sought Spiritual insight into your decision.

The cards were encouraging and added one more piece of advice: If you really want to move forward, into your best life as co-creator of your highest destiny, ditch your boyfriend.

I was shocked at the cards – they’re not usually so blunt. I was even more shocked that you weren’t surprised at all.

Until you explained that you were lesbian.

“Kelly, I have big plans for my career and I can’t let this thing impede my potential,” you told me earnestly, as if your sexuality were a cancerous tumour. “He loves me, he’s a high-flyer himself, we make a good couple. He doesn’t know I’m gay. He doesn’t need to know. I’m fine. Everything’s okay.”

We met for another two Tarot consultations after that. Each time you arrived for your reading, I would notice your aura getting a little darker, your life force a little weaker. But that’s the price you pay for despising and hiding your true self, and if you choose self-deception and self-sabotage, the Universe will respect it.

We last met yesterday. Your face was haggard and grey – your life energy was critically low, and you were in denial about the fact that your soul had gone into self-destruction mode. You were late for the reading. I found your initial behaviour pompous, self-entitled and plain rude. It took you a while to let down your defences and become a faded, drained version of the sweet soul I used to know.

You were asking questions about your career, using phrases like How can I turn this to my advantage and What’s the takeaway from these cards, stock jargon that means absolutely nothing to your higher soul but that you mindlessly parrot because you have this deluded idea that successful people talk like that.

You deceased best friend was so concerned she popped up in the cards as the Queen of Rods – when you wanted to know the outcomes of working for another firm in the same industry – to say Stop, stop, what are you doing to yourself?

Your eyes filled with tears for a moment, then you suppressed them. “Everything’s okay,” you mumbled, gazing hopelessly at the Queen of Rods on the table. The hollow despair in your voice told me the exact opposite.

I don’t know if you will follow the advice given by the Tarot this time. It takes courage and honesty to see a counsellor and I’m not sure you have those qualities in you right now. As a human soul, you have been granted the gift of free will. You’re using this gift to pursue your foolish obsession with keeping up false appearances. Anything that is not true to what your higher soul wants will debilitate and ultimately destroy you, and if three Tarot consultations with me can’t persuade you to change course, I’m not sure I should offer you a fourth reading if you ask.

Dear you, you’re a mess.
And so long as you insist that everything’s okay, no one, not even God or the Archangels, can help you.

*          *          *

Dear you,

We’ve known each other for about six years now. When we first met, you were an undergraduate at a prestigious local university. You were slim – very slim. You also ate a lot, and disappeared into the bathroom several times during our meals together. It didn’t take a psychic to figure out what was going on.

In the face of overwhelming pressure – your parents were fighting incessantly, your brother was suicidal, your studies were stressful – an eating disorder became your way of taking control over your life. I empathised with your struggles, but you would smile and say, “Everything’s okay”. So I made you promise me to keep in touch and tell me if ever the day arrived that something was not okay.

I did not expect that early-morning call three years ago. You were screaming Oh my god Kelly, oh my god in between sobs and wordless, long-drawn wails. You had found your brother’s body in the bathroom when you entered to purge your meal. That early morning, his suffering had ended by his hand; yours had just begun.

You plunged into a clinical depression. Your bulimia morphed into anorexia – you simply stopped eating, and lived on one cup of coffee a day (black, no sugar). Your parents divorced. You kept thinking of taking your life. You knew you were on the verge of destruction.

Thank you for keeping your promise to tell me that everything was not okay.

You took a break from university for one semester to focus on your healing. You spent months crying yourself half-blind every day, crying so much you were sick of crying. You put aside your pride, your false sense of self-sufficiency. You spoke with therapists, went for reiki healing sessions, and found solace in religion.

Life broke you then. But Life has always loved you, and Spirit has never forsaken you.

Look at you now. The dark night of your soul is almost over. Your eating disorder still returns sometimes, but that beast lost its death grip over you a long time ago. Your parents have moved on and re-married other people, giving you the peace you never had when they were unhappily together. You miss your brother, but we connected with him during our mediumship consultation two months back, and now he’s watching over you with love from the realm of Light.

Best of all: congratulations on your recent graduation. I’m honoured to call you Doctor from now on. You chose to face your inner demons and your grief by specialising in psychiatry, dedicating your life to heal tormented souls and unquiet minds.

In the midst of your suffering, you dropped the lie that Everything is okay and, in losing that mask, you found your true self. You could have created more lies to protect yourself from the truth, or denied that you had any problems. Instead, you chose to acknowledge your darkness, to stand and fight, to co-create a destiny where you could find true happiness.

Dear you… well done, good and faithful soul.
I believe with all my heart that your life is only going to get better. There will be challenging times; but God loves you, the Universe is kind, and Spirit is cheering you on every step of the way.

And I just know that everything is going to be okay.

“I’ll see you again.” A song for our loved ones in Spirit.

If you walked in now,
I wouldn’t start, I wouldn’t frown.
And if you just appeared,
I wouldn’t cry, or think it weird.
‘Cause you are still around;
You’re in the air, you’re in the ground.
And you can’t go away;
I am afraid you’re here to stay.*

She woke up with a start.

Her clock read 3:30 am. Again. Her bedroom door, firmly shut when she went to bed three hours earlier, was wide open.

The fragrance of jasmine incense lingered in the air. Her grandmother would burn it every morning. Her grandmother passed away nine months ago.

She got out of bed and, as she shut the door, whispered into the darkness:

– We are well, grandma. Please don’t worry about us.

*          *          *

Friends don’t understand,
They close the door, they raise their hands.
She says she hears your voice;
Of course she does, she has no choice.
I was hours ahead when they removed you from your bed.
They drank all the wine, until you said goodbye.*

“I hope you can help me. Nobody understands. They think I’m going mad,” Alice said.

Seated at the dining table, I looked around Alice’s flat. It was lovely, except for the deeply painful energies of Alice’s grief that pervaded the entire space. And the spirit of the deceased corgi that sat beside us, love and anxiety clouding her beautiful little furry face as she looked at me pleadingly.

“Sasha’s cancer spread so fast. We did everything we could for her. I was begging her to give me more time to help her find a cure, the right treatment, the right supplements. Then one day she just collapsed. We rushed her to the vet, but she was dead on arrival.

“It’s been two months but I still sense her around me. My family and friends are starting to say I need a psychiatrist. They say I’m just imagining things. But I swear I sometimes see her at the corner of my eye. And I cry for her everyday. I can’t let go, I just can’t -”

Alice began sobbing.

A spirit corgi’s paw gently patted my toes. Help us, please, angel lady, little Sasha whispered.

– Alice, you’re not going mad. Sasha is here with us. But my concern is that Sasha did not go into the Light after her death because she was worried that you would miss her.

Alice nodded tearfully. “Yes. I was afraid that once she crossed over, I’d never see her again. I told her not to go. I can’t live without her. She’s my best friend, my soulmate.”

– You have nothing to fear, Alice. It is necessary for all souls to cross over into the Light after their physical bodies die. This is required for their healing. But death is not the end, only a door. Your deceased loved ones can and often do return to visit. Alice, Sasha loves you, but she’s very tired and needs to heal in heaven. You need to heal too, and the first step is for you to face your grief, and release Sasha into the Light. Will you let her cross over?

Alice stopped weeping. “Am I hindering her healing with my selfishness? Oh my god, I’m so sorry, Sasha, I’m so sorry…” Alice burst into a renewed fit of tears. My heart ached for them both.

– It’s fine, Alice. Now that you know, what do you choose?

“I choose to let go. Sasha deserves only the best… I love you, Sasha.”

I love you too, Mummy. And thank you, angel lady. I’ll be brave when I cross over. You’ll help me, won’t you?

True love gives us the courage, even in the depths of our despair, to do things we never would have thought possible. The bond between Alice and Sasha moved me deeply.

– I will do my best. I promise you both.

Later that night, I conducted a meditation where I invited Archangel Uriel, guardian of the earthly realm, to lead Sasha into the Light to receive her long-awaited healing. I also conducted a long-distance energy healing session for Alice, removing the dark energies of grief that were strangling her heart chakra, and filling her soul with divine love and light.

Healing from grief is a long process that requires time, patience and a lot of love to get through. Alice’s heart was broken, but I have faith that Alice and Sasha’s deep, abiding love for each other will stand the test of separation as they both heal. And one day, I am absolutely certain that Sasha will return to visit, and perhaps even watch over Alice as a spirit guide of Light.

Healthy in my dreams
Is what you are, is what it seems.
What does it all mean?
You’re only hiding behind a screen.
Curse the English day for what it forces us to say.
Banish all the pain;

‘Cause when I die, I’ll see you again.*

One of my best friends died this morning.

His death was completely unexpected. His caretakers had no idea – he was still conscious and responsive last night.

The last time I saw him was Sunday evening – two days ago. As we chatted, the phrase “one or two days more” kept flashing across my inner eye. But I chose to ignore it. Chose to deny it. Kept telling myself that he would get better.

But my gift was right, and I was wrong. Sometimes the gift can almost be a burden.

I rushed down once I got the text message, just in time to touch his cold face for the last time; to say goodbye to the physical shell that had endured so much suffering.

Death is not the end, only a door. True.
What’s also true is that the death of a loved one tears your soul apart like nothing else can.

I’m a lightworker. I channel Spirit. I see dead souls all the time. Of all people, I know pretty damn well that our deceased loved ones can and will return to visit us. We are not forsaken. We are not alone.

I know all this. But it hasn’t stopped me from crying for the past eight hours.

It doesn’t matter who you are – king or beggar, priest or prostitute, scientist or psychic medium – so long as you are alive, one day you will die. And in the course of your life, at least one person or pet you know (and perhaps love very much) will die, and your heart will break. This is the order of things. It is inescapable.

Yet we live our lives as if we were immortal, indestructible. And when Death finally touches us, we cry, we break down, we scream and look for someone to blame. As if Death were a big surprise – when the truth is that Death is only a matter of Time.

To everything in our lives, there is a season. Right now it’s the seventh lunar month, the season of remembrance and mourning for those who observe it.

My heart is with you all in this season of remembrance. Be kind to yourselves, and to each other. It’s what your loved ones in Spirit would desire for you.

Life is precious, and so very fragile. Be well.

*Lyrics in italics taken from ‘When I Die’ by Lush (1994)

She looked for love… and found her calling. Read Myra’s story here.

The first time she met me for a reading, Myra wore a baggy, dark blue maxi dress that swamped her completely. Almost as if she wanted to hide away forever and never be noticed by anyone.

As the reading progressed it became clear that Myra, a secretary, was as shy and introverted as her dress suggested. Myra had few friends and couldn’t recall the last time she shared her feelings with anyone.

And that was why she finally decided to see me – because something earth-shattering had happened in her quiet life and she desperately needed to talk to someone who could help:

Myra was in love, and she didn’t know what to do.

“His name is Henry. We attend the same gym for Pilates classes. I’ve known him for a year. We chat sometimes. I wonder if I have a chance with him.”

Myra drew the cards from the Tarot deck and handed them to me, as I laid out a relationship spread to discern what might come out of Myra and Henry’s friendship.

The cards didn’t look too promising. The Knight of Swords on Henry’s end told me he really only was interested in his career; as for Myra, the Seven of Cups gently suggested that she manage her expectations more realistically.

Myra’s face fell when I told her the news.

“I’m not surprised,” Myra mumbled as her eyes scanned the cards on the table. “All my life, I never said anything to the guys I liked. They treated me like a friend when I wanted to be more.” She sighed sadly. “No one wants the plain Jane.”

– Don’t say that, Myra. You’ve made friends with Henry, and friendship is a good starting point. Maybe you could suggest a quick coffee with him after Pilates, or an activity date together. What are you interested in?

Myra’s eyes lit up slightly. “I don’t really have any interest or special gift. But I’m pretty good at Pilates.” A hint of pride shimmered in her quiet voice.

Oops. The Tarot deck I’d been shuffling splintered in my hands, and two cards popped out. Eight of Pentacles – mastering a skill; Ace of Cups – potential for joy. Spirit was suggesting an idea. I smiled at Myra.

– Well then. You have a talent for Pilates. If that makes you happy, work on it. As for Henry, enjoy his friendship and let’s see where the Universe takes this.

“Yes. We’ll see.” Myra was smiling now, and we moved on to other topics for the rest of the reading.

*          *          *

Myra texted me a few days after the reading.

“I thought about what you said, and I’ve decided to take the Pilates instructor’s course. When I told Henry my plans, he was happy for me and said I would make a great coach. We went for coffee after class.”

Myra was choosing the path of learning, growth and self-love; she was bravely stepping out of her comfort zone. I replied the best way I knew:

– Awesome! <3 🙂

*          *          *

I didn’t hear from Myra for another six months. But when she called me one evening, the tremor in her voice told me something was wrong.

– How’s the Pilates course?
“I’m graduating in… four months. Yeah.”
– Nice. How’s it going with Henry?
“… He’s fine. I saw him just now at class.”

A long pause.

– Myra, are you okay?
Silence. A jagged sigh, and a stifled sob.
“He’s been posted to Dubai for five years. He’s leaving tomorrow.”

Then the sobs began in earnest. Myra was crying.

*          *          *

I didn’t hear from Myra again until about six months after that phone call. But when we met for a second reading, I was amazed at the difference.

Myra was no longer the diffident, self-doubting young lady I’d first met a year ago. Her eyes met mine and she smiled warmly, taking her seat across the table.

“I got my Pilates instructor’s certificate! It was hard work, but all worth it. I’ve never felt so proud of myself before.

“Thank you for encouraging me to develop my talent, Kelly. Before I met you, I never felt confident enough to do much with my life. But I’ve come so far, and now I’m a part-time Pilates coach. I love it.

“Last weekend, one of my students thanked me for helping to ease her chronic backache with Pilates. And it struck me: I just made a difference in someone’s life. I can actually do that. Now I want to be a blessing to others as much as I can, with whatever gifts I have.”

There was a quiet self-assurance about the new Myra. I knew that Myra’s life wasn’t perfect, and she was still looking for love, as we all do in different ways. But while looking for love, she had found her calling. Now all was well with her soul, and that was what truly mattered.

You can’t cheat Karma. Erwin learns the hard way!

It was obvious from the get-go that I was being tested by this new client. Erwin sat across the table with his arms folded, sneering at everything I said. At one point, he called an accurate insight a “lucky guess”.

After five minutes of scoffing at my “lucky guesses”, Erwin then spent the next ten minutes telling me stories about his incredible “psychic abilities”. According to him, he could foretell significant events in his life and the lives of people around him. Wouldn’t you know, Erwin even predicted 9/11.

Colour me impressed. Not really. More like… really, really bored. But I believe that Spirit brings people to me for a reason, and this would be a learning point. So I sat, and tried not to fall asleep while Erwin droned.

Then I sensed a warmth, an electricity in the atmosphere. A golden light filled the air, and a profound sense of peace came upon my soul. Behind Erwin, a tall and angelically handsome figure appeared, smiling at me.

Archangel Michael, Upholder of God’s Light and Truth.

Let me handle this.

(– Thank you, Archangel Michael!)

“… So what I want to ask is, this woman I had a relationship with for one year, she cheated on me and left, but I don’t understand why, because I could even predict the day that she would come into my life, so even with my abilities, how come I couldn’t predict that she would dump me?”

I smiled, and passed Erwin the Tarot deck.

He pulled out the Five of Swords, the Three of Cups reversed, and Justice.

– Well, Erwin, according to the cards, it’s because she had no respect for you. After all, you’re married yourself, so you were cheating with her too. Justice is here to reassure you that no one escapes the universal Law of Karma.

It never pays to brag, lie, or challenge Spirit. Erwin practically deflated before my eyes.

The rest of the reading continued along the same lines. Erwin brought up similar empty boasts and half-baked delusions, every one of which Archangel Michael calmly destroyed with the highest Light and Truth, through my humble Tarot deck.

You’re consistently rude to your boss. Will you lose your job? Eventually, yes. You’re going after another girl. Aren’t you still married? You can’t cheat karma; this affair will end badly. You don’t have any friends? Hmmm, could it be you? Use the Law of Attraction: heal your self-hatred, and new friends who don’t hate you will appear in time.

As the reading concluded, I looked at Erwin.

– Lots to think about. Up to you to follow the advice.

“Sure. I’ll come back for another reading in a while, and maybe you can see how I’ve improved.”

Experience has taught me to discern the doers from the talkers: those who take action to change their lives, versus those who enjoy the attention they get from a reading before going right back to their dysfunctional habits. I was not optimistic about Erwin’s chances, but I wished him all the best. The Universe had given him an opportunity, and it was up to him what he wished to do with it.

*          *          *

It was obvious from the get-go that Spirit was appreciated by this new client. Lina had requested a reading for guidance regarding her recent job promotion. She was respectful when she asked questions, and listened carefully while I explained the cards. She was also blessed with a visitation by a deceased loved one. Through her tears, I was glad to see that Lina’s healing had begun.

As the reading concluded, Lina thanked me. “What he said was right. I’m so glad I came for a reading, Kelly!”

– Sure. Sorry, who’s “he”?

“Do you remember Erwin?”

It had been almost a year, but the name was familiar.

“I’m Erwin’s ex-colleague. This girl he was cheating on his wife with turned out to be a good friend of our boss. She dumped Erwin, and told our boss what Erwin was saying behind his back. Erwin was asked to leave. He was creating a lot of problems at work anyway. No one could stand him. That’s how I got promoted. I’m taking over his position.”

Lina smiled, thanked me again, and left.

An angel steps in before she steps off the bridge… and leaves a sign.

3:14 a.m. My phone vibrated twice, then went silent.

The words on the screen jolted me out of my semi-conscious state.

“I can’t go on anymore. Kelly, I’ve let you down. I’m sorry.”

I sat up in bed and called the number. The line was dead. Hazel had switched off her mobile after texting me.

She didn’t want to be stopped. Or found.

There was not much I could do but wait. And pray.

*          *          *

Hazel and I go way back. We were schoolmates who became good friends. We had lots in common and confided in each other when we needed support and advice.

Hazel was popular in school: smart and outgoing, Hazel’s suntanned skin (from years of competitive sailing) brought out her gorgeous eyes and grin. Both guys and girls swooned over her as she swaggered past; teachers shook their heads and tried to hide their fond smiles when she made yet another wisecrack in class.

But Hazel had many dark secrets.

Hazel suffered from depression, and had nightmares almost every night. She frequently considered suicide, especially when she was out at sea, all alone on her sailboat. And here was the reason why:

Hazel wanted to be a man. Her parents, however, were aggressively anti-LGBT. And the celebrity pastors of one of Singapore’s largest megachurches.

*          *          *

I prayed.

– Angels and archangels of the Highest Light, I call on you now. My friend Hazel needs help urgently. So long as it is for her highest good, I ask that you thwart all attempts at self-harm. Heal her and show her that she is dearly loved, and that God is greater than we can ask, think, or imagine. In the Name of all that is good and pure and holy, thank you.

Over the years, I tried to speak with Hazel about Spirit and how God loved her unconditionally. I’d also spoken to Hazel about angels before, but she insisted that she was damned to hell simply for having transsexual inclinations.

Her parents’ own biases and fears had damaged Hazel deeply, creating a person who kept up appearances well but was a wreck inside, crumbling from the weight of shame and self-condemnation.

The air grew warm. I opened my eyes to see an angel smiling at me.

Greetings, dear one.

– Hazel. How is she?

Your friend is safe. As you know, she has chosen a great and wonderful soul calling in this life, which is to stand firm in her truth even if she were to be misunderstood and judged for it. Because of her strength, many lives will be helped.

– But she is not strong now. Her life, sanity and happiness are on the line. This is not her first suicide attempt and it will not be her last. How much longer before she can overcome, servant of God?

The angel smiled again.

She has not yet recognised the strength within herself, but stand by her. And eventually, she will.

With that, the angel left.

I picked up my phone and called Hazel again. The line was dead, still.

*          *          *

She called back three days later.

“Hey, Kelly.”

– Hello, stranger. How are you?

“Something weird happened the last time I texted. Can’t wrap my head around it. You’re the woo-woo spirit person so maybe you could explain.”

– Okay, shoot.

“I was at the Benjamin Sheares bridge when I texted you.”

My heart skipped a beat. It was a long drop from that bridge into the sea. Jumping off Benjamin Sheares bridge at 3 a.m. in the morning? Hazel really didn’t want to be found.

“After I texted you, I switched my phone off. Then I started climbing over the railing. Right at that moment, the row of lights along the bridge just went off suddenly. It was really dark.

“Then from behind me, the air grew warm. All of a sudden. It was cold before that. And then I really freaked out when the air started glowing.”

She paused, as if struggling to find the words for what happened next.

“The glow in the air… I can’t explain. It took shape. I couldn’t see it because it was standing behind me, but I just know it was taking the form of an angel. I don’t know how I know. I just know.

“Suddenly I felt like a weight had lifted from my shoulders. Then I felt like someone was holding me from behind. And I started crying like crazy because I felt that everything was hopeless and my life was terrible but I had to keep on living because one day things will get better and I want to be alive to see that day. And it doesn’t matter that I don’t feel okay now because one day I will be okay. I don’t know how. I just know I have to stay alive.

“I stepped off the railing. Got back on the bridge. The lights came back on after a minute. Right in front of me was a feather. It wasn’t there before.”

We were silent for a moment.

– Spirit loves you, Hazel. Don’t give up on yourself.

“… I want to believe it. One day, I will believe.”

Don’t run from this truth: Money can’t buy happiness.

I checked my timer in disbelief. 20 minutes, 37 seconds. Shortest reading ever.

The bride-to-be had left the money on the table and the chair skewed at an awkward angle, when she got up and literally ran from me. She’d paid for the full 1-hour reading, but apparently what she heard in the first 20 minutes was too much to handle.

*          *          *

“My name is Jolie. I was recommended by Mandy. I’d love to see you today.”

– I have a slot at 4 pm, but there’s an extra charge for same-day bookings.

“No worries, Kelly! Mandy said you’re worth every penny! See you soon.”

Jolie turned up on the dot, a beautiful and exquisitely dressed young lady. She had a face I could vaguely recognise and, after a short chat, realised I’d probably seen in glossy magazines like Tatler. She was a young socialite from one of the country’s wealthiest families, and hers was fast becoming a household name.

But money can’t buy happiness. Even as Jolie placed her Hermes handbag on the seat beside her, the anguish permeating her entire aura had already reached out and hit me across the table. My eyes were also drawn to the tiny hearing aid on her left ear that she’d skilfully hidden with her long, honey brown curls.

“Thanks for seeing me at such short notice. I have a hearing problem in my left ear due to an infection, so I hope you don’t mind if I ask you to speak up sometimes,” Jolie said brightly as she arranged her hair to cover her ear and neck.

The Tarot deck I was shuffling fell apart as she spoke. Five cards shot out and lay face down on a haphazard track across the table.

I turned them over.

Five of Rods. Five of Swords. The Tower. The Devil. Death.

I put the cards aside for later reference.

“I’m getting married next month and I just want to ask questions about, you know, married life and all,” Jolie continued with a smile as her fingers ran through her hair, unaware that the Tarot had already begun calling her out on her lies and self-deception.

I smiled back, saddened at the sight of this broken spirit, desperately pretending that her life was going well because the alternative – the truth – was too terrifying for her to bear.

I decided on a gentler approach: the Angel Oracle deck.

– Here, Jolie. Take a deep breath, concentrate on your question, and pull out three cards.

Jolie’s smile disappeared once she saw the three cards her guardian angel had helped her to choose.

Be Honest With Yourself. Time To Go. Cupid.

It was time to tell the truth and set Jolie free.

– Jolie, your angels are concerned that you’re not being fully truthful to yourself about what you want in a life partner. They’re saying that you have the choice not to go ahead with this wedding. Your time with this person has come to an end, and it’s time to move on. If you do, the Universe has someone better for you, as the card representing Cupid indicates.

She cocked her head at me and laughed in disbelief, her eyes filled with resentment and fear. “What do you mean? I’m not backing out now! Do you know who he is?” She gave me the name of a young heir from a wealthy and well-connected family, a triumphant sneer on her elegant face. “He’s a good catch, Kelly!”

I took a deep breath, and exhaled.

– No man is a good catch if he hits you.

Jolie stared at me blankly, her mouth agape. Her fingers froze in her tresses. I glimpsed a faint outline of bruises on her neck, below her left ear.

No turning back now. I laid out the five Tarot cards that I’d put aside earlier.

– Five of Rods: constant quarrels and violence. Five of Swords: you’re silent because you fear public humiliation. The Tower: this card tells me he’s not only hit you, he’s pushed you down the stairs before. He’s destroying your life. The Devil: this man has major issues and needs professional help. Death: if you stay, your fiancé will take you down with him. Jolie, you deserve better. Are you sure you want to go ahead with the wedding?

I looked up from the cards. Jolie was pale as a ghost, and trembling like a leaf.

I kept quiet. My heart bled for her, but only she could decide what to do.

The sound of a purse being zipped open noisily stirred me out of my reverie. Jolie’s hands were shaking as she pulled dollar bills out of her Chanel purse.

“Thanks for the reading, I have to go, here’s a tip, bye… ” Jolie mumbled robotically, refusing to look me in the eye. She placed the money on the table, then got up.

Her teary, terrified eyes finally met mine.

“Don’t tell anyone,” she whispered shakily.

Then Jolie turned and ran, in her cute Jimmy Choo flats.

I glanced at my timer. 20 minutes, 37 seconds. A short reading for me, but a long and painful road ahead for Jolie unless she changes track.

I haven’t heard from Jolie since. I hope she’s okay.

The stories on this website (including the above recount) are based on Kelly’s personal and professional experiences as a lightworker. Some details have been changed to protect the identities of the individuals involved.

He was being stalked by a psychic vampire. Here’s what I did.

He wasn’t alone. Seated before me with a tired smile on his face, Ming, a long-time client, was being stalked by a spirit.

But this was the spirit of someone alive. An attractive woman. Standing right behind him, with both hands around his neck. And Ming had no idea.

I was getting a really bad vibe from this.

“I need a reading on my career,” Ming said, wincing gingerly as he massaged the back of his neck. “Something’s happened and I’m a little stressed.”

A physiotherapist working at a large private clinic, Ming was popular with everybody. He had recently been promoted after our previous card reading encouraged him to ask for one.

– I’m surprised there’s a problem at work, Ming. Are you okay?

“Oh no, it’s not a big problem, just… agh. What do these cards mean?”

I’d been shuffling the Angel oracle deck as Ming was speaking. Some cards had fallen out; I arranged them in a straight line for him to read. Ming’s angels and guides were firm in their message:

YOU HAVE THE POWER. ASK FOR OUR HELP. WE WILL ASSIST YOU IN RELEASING YOUR BURDEN.

– Ming, what’s this burden the cards are mentioning?

“… This client. She came in with a bad knee, which I helped to strengthen. Then she started coming to see me every day, just to say hi or give me presents. She would wait at the carpark so no one would notice. She parked her BMW as close as she could to my motorbike. I couldn’t avoid her.

“She asked for my number. She wouldn’t stop until I gave it to her. Now she calls and texts me all the time. She’s lonely, I get that. So I try to be nice. But it’s weird. She gets upset when I say I have other plans. This sounds crazy but…”

Ming bent forward and whispered.

“… Ever since she came into my life, I’ve been so exhausted. And… I feel like I’m being followed. All the time.”

Behind Ming, the spirit’s grip on his neck tightened ever so slightly.

A quick tuning in revealed to me that this woman had consulted a Wiccan practitioner and cast a binding spell on Ming without his knowledge or approval, to ensure that they would always have a relationship. That’s a BIG karmic no-no right there.

As a lightworker, there is a time for love and light, and there is a time to bring out the big guns. This was one of those times. The first thing I did was to lead Ming in a prayer to forgive his attacker, and renounce this host-vampire relationship.

Then I prayed for back-up. Archangel Michael, the warrior Archangel, came forward and dissolved the cord that bound the woman to Ming. The darkness in Ming’s aura began to lighten.

Then I stepped behind Ming and gently pulled off the fingers that clung to his neck. One by one.

The spirit started to scream. I ignored her.

The detachment complete, I channelled the highest light into the wounds in Ming’s aura (mostly at his neck and shoulders, where the spirit had been clinging), while Ming’s angels surrounded him and Archangel Michael escorted the errant spirit back to where she came from.

– Okay Ming, you’re gonna feel light-headed and tired after this. I want you to eat something now, then go home and rest. Detach from this woman as much as you can, with kindness and compassion. No contact. Can you do that?

“Will do. My neck feels much better.” Ming’s smile was less tired now.

Some weeks later, Ming called with news. That evening after our session, the woman called Ming at home before he could block her number. She ranted and shrieked at Ming for a good half an hour. Ming responded with kindness, refusing to argue, but also firmly telling her not to make contact again.

The next day, the woman called the clinic, claiming that Ming had molested her during her sessions. She threatened to file charges against Ming and the clinic unless Ming was fired. The clinic told her to go ahead. She hung up.

She never appeared again.

“I feel so much lighter and happier now, Kelly. I didn’t know I’d been dealing with a psychic vampire for the past two months. Thanks so much for your help.”

– I know you’re a very caring person, Ming. Always remember to draw boundaries, especially with toxic people. Bless!

“Cheers. Bye!”
