This Week’s Tarot Reading, 13-19 Feb 2017

In the mood for love? This week in the stars, energies are hot and heavy. As I mentioned in a previous post, sexy Venus and hot-headed Mars are doing a hot cha-cha in impulsive Aries until 9 March. Physical attraction gets a boost, and if sparks have been flying between you and that cutie from Accounts, you might find the heat turning up a few notches over the next few weeks!

Adding on to the sizzle, the Moon sashays into amiable and partnership-minded Libra on Tuesday, 14 February – yes, Valentine’s Day! It’s a wonderful day to set (or reset) some #couplegoals for those of you who are already attached. Singles, don’t miss out on the social opportunities that the Moon in Libra offers. Libra loves a good party, and contrary to what Hollywood or your well-meaning family + friends tell you, you don’t actually need a romantic partner to have a good life!

“you don’t actually need a romantic partner to have a good life!”

Let’s work with the energies of the Moon in Libra to get things moving, folks. Maybe organise a get-together or say Yes to being someone’s plus-one, then let your hair down and mingle… you NEVER know whom you might meet and what might come out of your choice to be sociable! One thing for sure, darling – you’re far less likely to find your soulmate just sitting at home and swiping sulkily through Tinder.

“You’re far less likely to find your soulmate just sitting at home and swiping sulkily through Tinder.”

This Week’s Tarot is interesting and a little cheeky! You can interpret it as a general reading if you’re not romantically inclined; if you’re in the mood, though, consider this reading a possible answer to the question Why am I unsatisfied with my love life (or lack thereof)? Spoiler: some sass + tough love ahead. Easily butthurt folks, read no further.

“Spoiler: some sass + tough love ahead. Easily butthurt folks, read no further.”

Here we go!

LEFT: FOUR OF CUPS. This card usually indicates boredom and is associated (to some extent) with taking what you have for granted. Many of us have been fed a steady, heady cocktail of Hollywood songs + movies, social norms and peer pressure almost all our lives – we’re led to believe that beauty looks a certain way, relationships must ROCK YOUR WORLD or it’s not true love, and if you’re not in a relationship, something could be wrong with you.

Unfortunately, we end up with unrealistic standards, a false sense of self-entitlement, and what I call La La Land Syndrome. We anxiously wait for Ryan Gosling to swoosh into our lives with truffles and a red Lamborghini, ignoring Peter Lim’s shy but earnest attempts to ask us out for lunch at the food court.

“Unfortunately, we end up with unrealistic standards, a false sense of self-entitlement, and what I call La La Land Syndrome.”

Or we go the other extreme and throw ourselves at any person who looks vaguely like eligible partner material (no serious diseases, might be fertile, OMG HERE’S MY NUMBER). Neither extreme leads to happiness, yet so many good folk are stuck in this rut. What gives?

MIDDLE: THE DEVIL REVERSED. This card gives a clue as to why so many otherwise sane, well-centred people suddenly lose their grip when relationships come into the picture. The Devil, whether upright or reversed, indicates inner demons and a deep fear that has become a sort of bondage, preventing one from moving forward. It also indicates a toxic person, relationship or situation that exerts profound control over one’s life. It sometimes refers to a painful event (usually a break-up, divorce or retrenchment) that has left deep scars in one’s psyche.

“The Devil… indicates inner demons and a deep fear that has become a sort of bondage”

The Devil’s appearance indicates an urgent need for healing. It might be time to work on issues with a therapist, book a series of energy healing sessions, conduct an emotional release ritual – or all of the above. Even if you don’t feel that you need treatment, The Devil is here to halt you in your tracks and ask you some tough questions: What do I fear most? What fear or desire exerts an excessive control over me? What cripples me and blocks my soul’s progress – and what can I do to overcome?

“The Devil is here to halt you in your tracks and ask you some tough questions.”

What, on our part, can we do to get rid of our personal roadblocks and find satisfaction in life and love?

RIGHT: SEVEN OF RODS REVERSED. Upright, this card indicates self-assertion: a man wielding a Rod stands his ground against six armed assailants. Upside-down, this card indicates that self-assertion is a problem: either there’s too much or there isn’t enough. There might be an issue with personal boundaries, i.e. you hardly have any, and you end up getting played by non-committal types, gold-diggers, loonies, cheaters, and a host of other red-flag bearers.

“Upside-down, this card indicates that self-assertion is a problem: either there’s too much or there isn’t enough.”

Another possible interpretation is that you’re overly defensive about your issues, and refusing help from people who could (and want to) assist you. If you’re the type who hates it when people tell you what you should do, I feel you – most people don’t enjoy being bossed around – but perhaps a tweak in perspective would help here. It doesn’t hurt to reach out and accept counsel, advice and/or help once in a while.

If this is you, stop swinging your Rod around and warding off help – sometimes our egos can get in the way of our own happiness. If you’ve been looking around for ages and still can’t find the right solution to your problem, maybe it’s time to get off the high horse. You might find your answer closer to the ground.

“… maybe it’s time to get off the high horse. You might find your answer closer to the ground.”

Have a great week ahead, and may the Love and Light of the Universe guide your path!
