Happy New Year, everyone! We enter 2017, numerologically a Number 1 Year. This is the year of new beginnings, of building up from the ground after leaving behind the old energies in 2016 that no longer serve our best interests. What we choose to focus on and build upon this year is crucial: it will significantly influence the course of the new nine-year cycle in our lives, shaping what we learn and how we grow.
If you want 2017 to be a great year and an awesome start to this nine-year cycle, read This Week’s Tarot! Here we go!
(You’re seeing it right: all three cards are reversed!)
LEFT: TWO OF PENTACLES REVERSED. When upright, this card represents balance and equilibrium, the successful juggling of multiple priorities. When reversed, the lesson is simple: stop the unnecessary multi-tasking. Choose what matters, and really, really invest in it. Better to do ONE thing right than fuck up ten because you couldn’t handle the load, overestimated your abilities, and/or didn’t have the guts to say No. Grow a spine. Clarify your goals. Focus.
“What we choose to focus on and build upon this year is crucial.”
MIDDLE: SEVEN OF CUPS REVERSED. This card, when upright, indicates unrealistic expectations and self-delusion. When it appears in the ill-dignified (upside-down) position, Spirit wants us to take a reality check. It’s time to be honest with ourselves and others about what we want out of our lives. Stop making excuses for why you’re still in a job, relationship or situation that’s draining your joy and driving you batshit. Take a long, hard, objective look at the challenge you’re facing. What’s really going on, and what can you do to make it better?
“Stop making excuses for why you’re still in a job, relationship or situation that’s draining your joy and driving you batshit.”
RIGHT: FOUR OF PENTACLES REVERSED. This card traditionally depicts a miser maintaining a death grip on his wealth of Pentacles. It warns against the perils of clinging on to safety nets and security blankets, thus becoming your own greatest obstacle to your life’s growth and happiness. When ill-dignified, the message is clear: let go of the old in order to welcome the new. Time to release difficult people, toxic issues, and self-limiting assumptions. It’s a new year and the start of a new cycle. You deserve better. Trust that letting go of the old, with the clear intention of welcoming new and improved energies, will open the door for exactly that to happen – it’s called the Law of Intention, and it’s not as popular as the Law of Attraction but it’s the essential first step before you can attract the right things, people and energies into your life.
“Trust that letting go of the old, with the clear intention of welcoming new and improved energies, will open the door for exactly that to happen.”
What’s up this week in astrology? 2017 begins smack in the middle of a Mercury retrograde, forcing us to slow down and reflect on how our lives are turning out and how we can make this year the best one ever. On 4 January, Mercury retrogrades back into candid, no-bullshit Sagittarius: here’s an opportunity to contemplate how honest we’ve been with ourselves and others, and how we can align our lives with our truth. The Mercury retrograde ends on 8 January, but bear in mind that the shadow period following a retrograde lasts for 14 days so do expect some lingering effects. Still, it’s all good.
Have a great week – and a great year – ahead!
