A mother may pass on, but her love never ends.

I wouldn’t have known that the sharply dressed man sitting across me at the table had anything to be sad about. He was the picture of success: charismatic, wealthy, dignified. Yet the tears were real, and they were flowing.

Success sometimes comes at a price – you have to keep working at it. And working was what this businessman, who owned one of Southeast Asia’s largest rice production and distribution firms, was good at. So good, that when his beloved mother passed on, he couldn’t reach the hospice in time.

He bore all the costs of the funeral, but couldn’t attend it.

And in the six weeks that followed, he couldn’t forgive himself.

The man before me was broken. He’d been having nightmares of his mother angrily berating him for not being there. He wanted to know if there was any way I could help him appease his mother’s spirit.

I reached across the table.

– Take my hand.

Our hands interlinked, I closed my eyes, and connected.

The first thing I discovered, I already knew. I sensed no negativity against this man. His dreams were manifestations of his own grief and anxiety.

My second discovery surprised me: his mother wasn’t around.

Uh oh, I thought. I’d assumed that his mother would turn up with a message, my client would be comforted, and yay it’s all good. But the spiritual realm is always dynamically evolving, never stale or predictable, and that’s one of the things I love about working with Spirit.:)

It was up to me to pursue the energetic link and find the deceased lady. And find her, I did – in the middle of a rice field surrounded by misty mountains, enjoying the breeze on a golden summer evening. And there, we had a chat.

“She’s not angry with me?”
– No, she loves you. She knows you were busy when she passed on. She wants you to forgive yourself.

“Where is she now?”
– In her hometown in Thailand, visiting her childhood haunts. Your family has been growing rice for some generations.

He smiled weakly, for the first time in the entire session. “Yes, it’s a family business. Will she come to see me soon?”
– Yes, in the next month or so.

“When? How will I know?”
– Ask for a sign. When it happens, you will know.

Some weeks later, I received a message:

“Big jam on expressway. Truck dropped a crate. Rice everywhere. Are you free this week?”

Why yes, I was.:)
